Here, take another look at the system here:Originally posted by foxwalk:Since the govt is pro Singaporeans being responsible for aging parents, why is there no leave stipulated by law for workers to use for taking care of their parents? There is childcare leave stipulated by MOM law but no "elderly parents care leave"??
Recently my father passed away, and I am worried if my mum ever gets sick (god forbids), will she be able to see the doctor independently and can we rely on her to tell us the truth as the doctor did? We can definitely take time off or annual leave or urgent leave to accompany our elderly parents to see the doctor, but what about chronic illnesses? This is an issue made even more critical when one has only one surviving parent.
Does this mean the government value the lives of elderly less than that of children and yet is out to "penalise" us for taking time off to take care of my parents?
Will someone please look into this issue??
It's utter stupidity!Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Saying is one thing, doing it is another matter.
The government wants to increase our birth rate, so that it doesn't burden the economy. What has been done to help? Looking at the number of women being sacked or retrenched once they are pregnant, it tells much of how much they have been doing. Throwing money is of no use, it doesn't help long term, but short term only. PAP has always been proud to say that they are forward-looking, but when it comes to such issues, they are not willing to compromise.
Who did you or your parents vote for?Originally posted by foxwalk:One concluding statement:
The government is hypocritical in its treatment of such important matters.
When my father was critically ill in the hospital. the doctors implied that it is not worthwhile to really strive to treat someone old.
I don't agree with your statement on old people. Old people may not contribute much, but their experience are valuable. We young people can learn a lot from them.Originally posted by the Bear:let's see..
babies = potential people to keep the economy running.. they are "fuel" for "future growth".. must look after
old people = not contributing to the economy... they are spent and should be discarded.. why bother to spend more time to look after?
uhh.. brutal but true?
