  While it has never been publicised due to obvious reasons, BG (NS) Lee Hsian Yang prefers not to be linked closely with his father. His appointment at Singtel previously was fortutious, if not coincidental.
  
  Still, something must have happened at Singtel or within major GLC-circles that prompted him to seek new pastures. No one quits suddenly for no particular reason.

  Health could be a major factor; desire for a new challenge could be another. Though in SG context, the latter would be rare.

  He is known for his independence, and was reputed to have even rejected a "fast track" promotion - (from Major to Colonel) - in the SAF.
  
  If he can make it in the Corporate World of the Private Sector then it will be to his own Personal Credit and Satisfaction that he made it without any help from the Family.
