In my opinion, AStar may be compassionate enough not to file a civil lawsuit against JH for future mutual cooperation perhaps. There is certainly more to meet than the eye by the sudden downplay of reputable JH after making that kind of allegation remarks and the mild tone used in the JOINT STATEMENT.

Look at the statement that lionnoisy posted and quote me any statement that actually says that JH's allegations are untrue, unjustified or that they take it back.
If you can't quote such a line, then you're only reading what you want into it. Then again, if that's what flaots your boat, knock yourself out.
More likely, they merely acknowledged that their statements may have ruffled some feathers, but hey, sometimes the truth hurts.
Still, all ST has to do is to publish this seemingly innocuous statement and the majority of the people, will lap it up like dogs in the Sahara. -

There you have it, then, if it's to be considered the truth as you say. There was no retyraction, only the acknowledgement that the statements cound be upsetting. Like Lordz said, the truth hurts and they've acknowledged, but in no way, shape or form have they stated that any of what they said was untrue, or made any effort to retract it. -
I know A*STar got a lot of PRC students one. dunno whether their school fees are funded by A STar or not?

I think you are mistaken, Einstein's work was on the theory of relativity. It's a rank thing. Why are some COs colonels while others are majors?
Seriously, most systems are based upon a number of criteria that vary from institution to institution. Unfortunately, one flaw is that one of the criteria is simply the number of publications per year and in total that the academic puts out, not taking into account the quality of the publications. I've seen so-called professors churning out utter piffle over and over again, and they still get their professorships. I've seen others get granted the status as a political reward for bringing in research funding. So you see, as I've been saying all along, it doesn't really mean all that much.
Does that mean that assistant prof cannot even generate piffle? Because they ought to do that to get promoted. -
