the Hezbollah went INTO Israel and kidnapped 2 soldiers...
if that's not an act of war, i don't know what the hell else is
but seriously, i find that the only thing we can justifiably whack Israel for is the use of too much firepower from the air and not moving in and taking out the places the rockets are being fired from using ground forces.. the neutralisation of those rockets and seizing of them from reportedly civilian homes would have shut up the world and shown the Hezbollah for what they are.. cowardly bastards who hide behind civilians..
anyway, the analogy still stands... if you throw stones at a hornet's nest, then hide behind your daughter, you should not blame the hornets for stinging the crap out of your daughter.. -

I can't believe the US gave the green light for israel to continue bombard lebanon.
i do not believe that the continued offensive by israel can bring a "sustainable" peace to the middle-east. i believe it will only serve to strengthen the Arab's anti israeli sentiments. i believe more people will join organisations like the Hezbollah to get their revenge on israel.
if israel started the offensive because of the 2 kidnapped soldiers and rockets from hezbollah, shouldn't UN send their whole army of troops into israel for DELIBERATELY bombed a UN observer post in lebanon.
once again, we see the US show of hypocrisy and tony blair's blind support to what ever the US backs.

Minister should lead by example, do not criticise or condemn until they propose the solution to solve the Isreal and Lebanon issue. Else they should shut up.

Israel and Singapore are two similarly small countries vulnerable to any negative politics from hostile governments of neighboring countries.
Both countries have only the desire to live in peace and co-prosperity with our immediate neighbors, and at the same time each will not accept any threats to our sovereignty and independence.
Hezbollah was set up by Iran to counter Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 to destroy the threats from the Palestinian Liberation Organisation based in Lebanon at that time.
Hezbollah became a component member of the present Lebanon government, and hold at least 12 seats in the Lebanese Parliament.
Despite Hezbollah being a member of the legitimate Lebanon Government, it took on an independent route in its policies and actions towards Israel.
The Lebanese Government and Military were simply too weak to face down the Hezbollah and disarm its private militia, both being funded and equipped by Iran.
Under such circumtances, did Israel attack Lebanon, or was Israel responding to an unprovoked attack by a component member of the Lebanese government ?
The present Israeli actions was a response to the continuous aggravation from Hezbollah with the frequent rocket attacks over the years, culminating with the latest unprovoked attack on an Israeli border guard post that ended with the killing of Israeli guards and kidnapping of two of its conscripted citizen-soldiers.
The present punitive action is an effort by Israel to neuter the Hezbollah and to prevent further attacks that disrupt, maim, and kill Israeli lives in the northern parts of Israel.
Can there be a solution to the troubles of this region ?
Can we convince the Arabs to accept the existence of Israel ?
Can we convince the Israelis to respect the Arabs, and understand the circumstances of the deep seated Arab antagonism towards Israel, so as to move to the next stage of finding a positive solution that will result in some form of reciprocally beneficial co-existence ? -

When I was in the Middle East, the sense of hatred from Arabs against Israel was much more stronger than Israel against Arabs ! !
Media reported in the Arab World was also very different stroies, 180 degrees difference at times from what we heard from the "Outside World".

However isn't the show of force from israel too much ? Although the hezbollah do fire rockets over to israel, israel respond by literally invading the country and destroy many infrastructure, which many are probably neutral and innocent. Thousands of Lebanonese lives will change and they will hate the Israel for attacking them. Even the UN post is destroyed and 4 innocent people are killed. Is these 4 innocent people lives worth lesser than the 2 Israel soldiers ? If the involved countries such as china use tic for tat method of the Israel to revenge the single life lost, we will probably see world war 3 in the making. To date the total number of casualty from Lebanon is more than 400. Billions of dollars of infrastructure are destroyed. Compare this figure with the 2 soldiers that were captured during the conflict. Does attacking so harshly result in them being rescued ? I think their chance of survival becomes slimmer by the day. Even if hezbollah never killed them, the Israel will accidentally finish the job by their attacek
Furthermore, will the attack result in a more peaceful world and Isreal ? No. The Muslims are more infuriated with this attack, they become more isolated and the extremist will get more sympatisers. In the end it just result in more conflicts and more lives lost. The innocent Lebanese whose lives have been affected due to the invasion will hate Israel and they themselves will become the lightly candidate of terrorism. Even when America attack Afghanistan and Iraq, terrorism still increase -

Why do other innocent people have to pay the price a few hundreds time for Hezbollah ? The reason why Israel attack Lebanon is the same reason why Japan attack China in WW2. For a few individuals, they start a war that kills hundred more time people, mostly innocent ones, seems to be an over reaction.
