damn the people, they're just fodder for "economics"
but seriously... the economic model the whole world is following is flawed... but no one dares to say any different... there will be a plateau reached where the resources cannot handle humanity... and then there's a nosedive and there is a great die-out...
it has already happened in Easter Island and a few other ancient civilisations...
it will happen to us if we allow this kind of insane "increase population" in order to sustain some warped economics to go on...
btw, orchard road is a goddamned moshpit already... so much so that i dread going there... -

flats/condo getting smaller, MRT getting more cramped, u can hardly walk without snaking your way in shopping centres, there's traffic jam almost everywhere, we have too many people fighting over the same jobs, students have to go thru balloting to get into school, and u can never find a table in foodcourt without standing behind those who are still eating.... etc..
do we have room for more?
i only know if there are 2 plates of chicken rice and 10 hungry persons, u will definitely have at least 8 unhappy men.
perhaps they find it easier to manipulate/drive 10 unsatisfied men than 2 contented ones... -

Alright, alright. There are too many people in Singapore. When I get a bus they're usually full. Otherwise, I actually try to avoid every other avoidable crowded place. I hate crowds.

Singapore is way too crowded, that is obvious. Just walking from point a to point b feels like a contact sport.
People are consciously or subconsciously trying to reduce the population size by not having more children
However, their efforts are thwarted by the government opening the gates to the population overflow from China and India, which in turn leads to even more people deciding to migrate ouit of the country, or not have kids.
Given enough time, I think the singapore population will be made up of 2 main groups of people. More than half will be the elderly, the rest will be "temporary" Singaporeans from other countries waiting for their applications to migrate to countries like the US (which btw is really having problems with the flood of illegal immigrants from the mexican border alone)
2nd or 3rd generation Singaporeans will become increasingly rare, since new immigrants will not stay long. (In fact, a lot of these people do not want to have kids here because they do not want them to serve national service) There will no longer be enough manpower(cheap labour) for the Singapore Armed Forces to maintain its present size, which in turn may have dire consequences for Singapore's national security and sovereignty. Ministerial posts will be handed from father to son/daughter because the MIW will be the only ones still reproducing regularly.
Singapore will slowly become a very crowded port of call for people, that is all. It will cease to even resemble a country.
OK, I'm just being cranky because its a Monday morning. But seriously Singapore is damned crowded

It had oreli happened in s'pore,3 rooms flat in 1970s is the same size as 4 rooms in 1980s,the 5 room in 2000s will be the same size as a 4 rooms one in 1990.
Our 4 rooms flat was purchased at S$51k in 1984 at Hougang and it has been increased by an average 3.3 times to S$170000 now at Sengang. floor area size reduced by 20% but price increased by S$120k.Our salary earned same as 1980s.
How leh!!!

No seriously, while property prices have tumbled during times of war, it does not change the fact that we are facing a severe shortage of space. Going vertical may not be enough, and private detached homes may soon become a thing of the past.
I can realistically see a coruscant-style megacity of the near future....
