Are Singaporeans Ready To Defend Country?

i will. even i dont like the current Govt but i am willing to die defending singapore so that my children, wife, parents, siblings , friends, relatives can live. without singapore, soverignity we will not have a future. It my duty to protect them irregardless who we are fighting against. it better to die fighting than be a coward and live with a guilt in your life.
when come to decision like this, shouldnt we use our heart rather than head to the thinking?? -
I can imagine next time should a war happen in Singapore.
All the foreigners will leave the country en masse while Singaporeans stay on to fight the enemy.
When the war is over and the country returns to normalcy, the people at the top will sing praises to the bravery and loyalty of the Singaporean soldiers for vanquishing their foes. Maybe hand out a few medallions and awards to them for defending the country.
Then they will quickly welcome back all the foreigners saying the country is safe now for them to live and work in.
And Singaporeans will return to their mundane lives as like before the war, complaining about transport fare increases, why every price is increasing but not their wages etc etc.
And life in Singapore goes on as before.

This is wat had been happening in the economic crisis period, Sg gov asked us to tighten our belts and promises to resume our CPF contribution but until today I am still in the dream.
FTs are welcomed with open arms,they can get PR and cship w/o serving NS n RS and Gov will ask us to protest SG during war and promise a better living in the future,f them man,i will not die 4 these flies and will migrate straightaway. -
I want to be part of an elite troops to protect my country's elite group. We need all of these elite swinging dicks to lead us to victory in a war. Anyone of them try to fly out of my country with their loved ones, we'll shoot them bastards down.
If we're losing, can use these elites as bargaining chips. -

The men in white horses don't have to fight. They just have to die. Leave the fighting to soldiers. By sacrificing their lives, it gives the army the motivation to fight and win.

But to compare with the Israelis? That's absurd. Yes, we live in a region of muslim neighbours but relations have always had at least a decent measure of cordiality.
But the Israelis? They thrive because they have to. Imagine living in a country where your Arab neighbours cannot wait to eliminate you from the face of the earth and exterminate your race. Israelis have gone thru the Holocaust and they desire to be stronger because of that too.
Now take a look at S'pore, do we have any Holocaust to speak of? If we do, would that make us more patriotic? Of course. It's the circumstances which make people of a nation unite, not just because simply that's where we grew up.

I am heartened to hear that most of you all here would in one form or another stay and fight.
I too would stay and fight to protect my family.
However, if my family were not in Singapore and I'm to only joker around... it would be hard to think of a good reason to stick ard. -
Even if my family is not around, I will still be here to contribute so as to ensure that my friends and their children, my NS mates and their children will have the benefit of my training, experiences, abilities, so that as many of us will survive from each battle to contribute to the next battle every single day.
My personal friends and I - both from NSF and in the business community - have all agreed that in the event of any emergencies to befall on us whether in Singapore or anywhere on earth - their children are my children, and mine will be theirs.
Anyone of us who remain physically capable to contribute, will offer our services to fight anyone who dare threaten this land - irregardless if our family remain here or not. -

Worst if u loose my leg or hands, i dont think medisave will be enough to cover me for the rest of my live. If thats the case continue living in Singapore is sure die one either by starvation or in war. Might as well go oversea to seek out a living with all yah limps.

Do they not include your parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws ?
When you migrate, does the entire extended family migrate with you, or are they left behind in Singapore ?
Are these relations not worthy of your efforts to protect with your life?
Do you think that such a tax is payable 'in times of war' ?
Any government will be rich if 'death tax' is collected in times of war, as it will be expected that casualties and deaths must occur and in large numbers.
Do you think that during such times of emergency, the administration of such revenue collection continue to be implemented ?
In any case, how much is your wealth that qualify you to pay 'death tax' or 'estate duties' ?
Do you know that only if you have assets that exceed $2 Million - then you need to pay such tax ?
Do you have such assets in your possession ?
Are these in Singapore or overseas ?
Besides relations, are you assets not worthy of your effort to protect with your life ? -

Hmmm....... if u ask this qns to those lao jiao generation, the answer will be a truthful YES!! But for now 2006, I doubt the answer is more of a wayang YES.
Why?
The older generation experience harsh conditions during nation building and has taken part in forging feelings, an unique national identity for this island. Singapore is more of a precious brainchild of the them in their perspective andthey will do anything to defend it.
But sadly, in this recent yrs, being a Singaporean, the word "Singaporean" doesn't hold ani water now. Any xyz with loads of cash, or could thump their chest loudly and proclaim that they are a foreign talent, could easyland u, at least a PR or even a citizenship. Being a Singaporean is so cheap as in just swearing in at the age of 21 and immediately get pink IC. Singapore is transforming unknowingly a place rather than a republic. With a large in flux of foreigners turn citizens, we can be for sure there are going to be many "fair-weather Singaporeans". For those that read last week LIFE! section, they say many ah mas do not see Singapore as a home, but a place to work, as they are not born here so no feeling. Judging on how generous our MIW are giving out student visa and lucrative scholarship to the Chinese citizens, do u think they will like Singapore and want to be a PR. From wad I gathered from them, they treat Singapore as a "carrot-head" so they can fleece it effortlessly. When time is up, they just go home. You believe these guys will stay and hold the fort? When Singapore is in a state of conflict, you believe Singapore will still appear as attractive to those FTs? Just remember the fall of the kingdom of Venice. They relied on too much foreigners turned locals for their army, and they are allowed to influence local politics and discussions. In the end, all those FT fled when the city was sieged by neighbouring kingdoms. -
