If you build a twin tower in the middle of sahara desert, will it turn into another New York City? Building are just hardwares, you need the software (ie. the people, knowledge, policies, stability, security, etc etc) to power the economy.Originally posted by qpicanto:Countries in the region are catching up fast and furious. Comments pls
IR related jobs mostly service oriented. Like retail, hotel jobs, amusement parks etc Casino itself probably no bigger than Vivo City.Originally posted by Gazelle:If you build a twin tower in the middle of sahara desert, will it turn into another New York City? Our government is full aware of the threats that is why they are not sitting on their arse and doing nothing. IRs, Space Port, LNG, Islamic Banking, T3, etc.. are what will help singapore stay ahead.
Please dont worry, do you part hard and everything will be ok.
A mega transhipment hub like PSA can never be built overnight... Connectivity network took years to establishOriginally posted by qpicanto:Countries in the region are catching up fast and furious. Actually if you find it strange, connectivity is the factor that binds shipping lines or airlines to a particular port or airportOriginally posted by qpicanto:quite true. but slowly and surely if we don't watch our costs then ....
The prob is this, there's only 2 shipping lineOriginally posted by qpicanto:Tanjung Pelepas got ample space for continuous development for a long time to come.
It's difficultOriginally posted by qpicanto:don't know if Malaysian government recent focus in southern projects is to give the ports higher priority in their planning. since PSA is backed by the S'pore government, the Malaysians must put alot more resources and efforts to break PSA dominance.
Why attacking the govt comments again???Originally posted by countdracula:the ports alone can't sustain the entire country....old man lee had been travelling to dubai fairly frequent to see what those guys are doing. they got the oil money to burn and they are turning the barren dessert into a place of real estate gem. they've got up and coming tourist attractions like the palm / atlas islands and they are currently digging up a huge canal fashioned after venice. they have billion dollar water theme parks while our whatever wet world in sentosa crashed. their ice ski thing could hold a small town while our snow city take seconds to cover from peak to bottom. this is no mirage, it's drawing plenty of folks there, even singaporeans.
in time to come, airlines will give changi a miss as planes get bigger and better and regional airports can do what changi can do. look at sia, no longer a top choice, even the likes of thai and mas have beaten them to it.
the shopping belt here is a myth, there's no real need to go down to orchard these days, i can get most things in the malls nearby. the marina ir was a letdown in my opinion, it's basically a huge convention centre with jackpot machines.
singapore is limited by land space which is unfortunate. what is more unfortunate is the lack of creative and alternative brain cells within the ruling class.
Sorry hor. A-380 is cannot travel that kinda distant, maybe in future. But if you are a frequent traveller, you will know that not many people fancy this kinda of 18 hours non-stop flight (especially for aging tourists) unless you are being pampered in the business and first class cabin.Originally posted by sbst275:Why attacking the govt comments again???
You already said it's a reality of bigger planes like the A-380, so if the airlines decide to fly non stop from Dubai to Perth, it's not within their control... It's all supply and demand
But the Kangaroo rt, defintely it has to stop at SEA
As for ports, Dubai isn't going to make much inroads against SG... It itself is already facing compeition from Oman's port of Salalah... Salalah is actually nearer to the shipping rt... Dubai is actually far off
I'd like to see the Rolls Royce trent engines power the A380 all the way from Dubai to PerthOriginally posted by sbst275:Why attacking the govt comments again???

Thank you for pointing out littering...Have you taken a walk of Orchard road after 2130h after the shops close? Have you strolled along East Coast park on weekends by the beach? Have you visited the average hawker center during a peak hour period?Originally posted by NewAge:From what i know the pap (pay and pay) methods worked, just take a look at littering and seatbelts.
Infrastructure also include the laws governing the country. Singapore has a relative good copyright law. It might give us an edge in R&D. Other then that a banking sector might be viable since S'pore is relative crime free and is a open country.
I guess it won't be long now....we've already had a one-eyed dragon arrested for murder, an attempted robbery of Maybank and brawls in Geylang...Originally posted by sbst275:Crime???
If you think here is brutal, see what's happening across the Causeway
When the economy is bad, desperate ppl will turn to crime
