Our government is full aware of the threats that is why they are not sitting on their arse and doing nothing. IRs, Space Port, LNG, Islamic Banking, T3, etc.. are what will help singapore stay ahead.

"Scientist claims to have cracked water-fuel secret
JOHOR BARU: A car that runs on water and petrol? That would be a breakthrough technology in these times of escalating fuel prices. And one man says it can be done.
Dr Halim Mohd Ali, 40, claims he can reduce fuel consumption by half with the Hydrogen Fuel Technology (HFT) or hydroxene.
Dr Halim, director of Hydrogen Fuel Technology (M) Sdn Bhd, said hydroxene uses water as a complementary fuel.
POWERING AHEAD: LM Star Autoworld president Abdul Uza Sheikh Mohamad (right) and Dr Halim speaking to reporters on the hydroxene technology in Johor Baru yesterday.
Water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen through high compression nano-technology before being pumped into the fuel line, he said.
“The new fuel mixture of petrol or diesel, hydrogen and oxygen is then injected into the engine where combustion takes place,” he said at the launch of hybrid cars by LM Star Autoworld Sdn Bhd here.
Dr Halim, who has a research centre in Putrajaya, said that he first patented hydroxene four years ago and would be re-filing the patent in the next two months.
He said that although he has received offers to sell the technology, some offers amounting to US$26mil (RM95.7mil), he had no intention of letting foreign parties get hold of it.
As simple as it sounds, Dr Halim is quick to add that the technology is difficult to copy, as it has a “secret recipe” which very few people know about.
“There are only 12 people in the world who know how hydroxene works and even then they only know 70% of the technology,” he said, adding that the core aspects of the technology remained with him.
Dr Halim, who has a doctorate in Physics from Birmingham University, said over RM12mil had been spent on hydroxene research and development in the last four years.
About 40% of the funding came from overseas, including Europe and the United States.
Dr Halim said the technology had been tested on some 200 Proton cars, as well as on a vehicle used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. " -

In fact, PTP is hardly served by any feeder vessels except to Chittagong -
don't know if Malaysian government recent focus in southern projects is to give the ports higher priority in their planning. since PSA is backed by the S'pore government, the Malaysians must put alot more resources and efforts to break PSA dominance.

Many feeders have ditched Plbh Tg Pelepas in recent years for PSA Terminal
And these feeders are more important than the mother vessel -
the ports alone can't sustain the entire country....old man lee had been travelling to dubai fairly frequent to see what those guys are doing. they got the oil money to burn and they are turning the barren dessert into a place of real estate gem. they've got up and coming tourist attractions like the palm / atlas islands and they are currently digging up a huge canal fashioned after venice. they have billion dollar water theme parks while our whatever wet world in sentosa crashed. their ice ski thing could hold a small town while our snow city take seconds to cover from peak to bottom. this is no mirage, it's drawing plenty of folks there, even singaporeans.
in time to come, airlines will give changi a miss as planes get bigger and better and regional airports can do what changi can do. look at sia, no longer a top choice, even the likes of thai and mas have beaten them to it.
the shopping belt here is a myth, there's no real need to go down to orchard these days, i can get most things in the malls nearby. the marina ir was a letdown in my opinion, it's basically a huge convention centre with jackpot machines.

Sorry hor. A-380 is cannot travel that kinda distant, maybe in future. To counter this threat, Singapore government has been pumping huge amoung of money to develop changi airport and to develop IRs and other attractions for transit passengers. -
The thing is, the regional countries are going into businesses that are critical to S'pore livelihood from seaports to airports, medical to retails etc. They know they have a competitive advantage in these sectors. That is their lower cost of operations which could be attributed directly or indirectly by lower estate prices where there is abundant land.

At the moment, the boeing 777-200ER is the longest-ranging plane in the air, having set a new record for the longest non-stop flight, from HK to London and they were running on the GE90-115 engines, with the highest lbs to thrust ratio available in the market.
Boeing's 787 dreamliner will rapidly eclipse that record once that plane is launched.
The closest Rolls royce has is an equivalent trent engine that powers the Boeing 777s and A340-500 series planes that SIA currently flies non-stop to LA and new york, 18 hours in the air.
Regarding the infrastructure issue, our govt unfortunately, with the supposed 'cream of the crop' are devoid of creative ideas and generate partial solutions that hinder the overall system.
For example, to solve the traffic congestion problem, Mah Bow Tan in all his 'genious', implemented the ERP gantry system, claiming it would restrict heavy traffic and improve overall flow. But the only unfortunate result of the gantry system is the 'bunching up' effect of traffic at the critical times and our brilliant govt's follow-up to introduce MORE GANTRIES to address the bunching up effect.
In short, their only solution to any problem is to make you pay...and pay more and more and more and more....
None of them have yet to suggest a solution that does NOT involve pumping in ridiculous amounts of money or make the people pay to support it. -
From what i know the pap (pay and pay) methods worked, just take a look at littering and seatbelts.
Infrastructure also include the laws governing the country. Singapore has a relative good copyright law. It might give us an edge in R&D. Other then that a banking sector might be viable since S'pore is relative crime free and is a open country. -

It seems you have not witnessed drivers blatantly tossing their still lit cigarette butts out of the driver's window, nor the open littering of tissue paper in plain view of the 'no-littering' sign.
Before you offer the govt another 'pat on the back', check whether people actually do strap themselves in at the back, or whether people still pirate movies and music from bit torrent, in direct contravention of SG copyright laws.
And before you even claim SG is relatively crime free, review the last two years on serious crime in the country, and you will notice it has actually spiked. It does not appear the police are doing a good enough job in a small enough country. Maybe they are sufficiently burdened by protocol and red tape...Oh did you also know they require a magistrate's court to authorize them to carry out an investigation when someone is beaten up by a gang >4 ? Penal section 323 for your reference. -
