This is a perfect example of the warped thought processes that people like X-man possess. Instead of attending to the matter at hand, he goes into irrelevant issues (education, white horse and so on) to attempt to mask the fact that he really can't cope with the matter at hand. In fact, he's gone so far off the rails as to forget which side of the argument he claims to be on, instead supporting my point. Atobe suggested that Singaporean English is not of a high enough standard to include the use of "xenophobic", and I pointed out that I hold a higher view of local English standards than that. Our friend here seems to support the point, claiming that "We know how to use proper english too".
Of course, he also shoots himself in the foot by claiming the moral high ground of speaking with respect, while the actual substance of what he says hardly reflects practice of that principle that he so sanctimoniously espouses.

Why can't you be more accomodating to others and less insistent that you and only you are always right? And just beacuse there is a view that differs, you start getting all puffed up and insulting.
Look back and see the insults you have dished out just because some here said you were wrong. Isn't it justifiable that others have as much right as you to have their own opinion and beliefs?
And stop trying to hide your insults with you big words and strong command of the english language. You may have a great education, but don't ever assume the rest of us don't have one.

As for the insults, I let the other person set the level of communication. If someone wants to get snide, I will respond in kind. On the other hand, if you look at my exchanges with someone like Atobe, I don't engage in that sort of thing because he doesn't either. It's not a case of someone disagreeing with me at all.
If someone makes a point I cannot rebut, I concede the point. If the point is something I can rebut, I will do so. Simple, isn't it?
I have no problem with any lack of respect you choose to employ. After all, how you choose to conduct yourself says everything about you and nothing about me, so it's not my problem at all, is it? I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy in espousing respect and then not practicing what you preach. -

Gedaken, I see you have been well 'entertained' over the last 24 hours, and the 'xenophobia' seems to be spreading.
Guess it is best to let human nature takes it course, and hope that some lessons in patience, tolerance, humility and politeness will evolve from here on.

It is always difficult to make a U-Turn, especially when it is a "narrow dead end street" that you find yourself in.
Always find a "two way" street, and unless you are confident to cross that busy road with aggressive drivers, go on the safe side - use the "lighted crossings, and follow the "Green Man".
If one wish to challenge a Porsche 'Boxer' while driving a Nissan Z - make sure there is enough fuel to outlast - if one cannot outrun the Porsche; otherwise.......... just enjoy the competition run. -

It's right there in front of you. Atobe and I have been taking different sides of this debate, but it hasn't degenerated into any mudslinging matches because both of us have been looking at what the other has said and rebutting without taking anything personally. On the other hand, once he's disagreed with you, you're going off like a two-bob watch already. Gee, what's the common factor here?
Try getting your head around the idea that if someone shows you that you're wrong, taking it personally and getting upset about it isn't going to change things. Either deal with it or decide that it's not worth it, instead of getting all whiny.
Anyway, it appears that left to your own devices, you'll go getting into trouble regardless of my presence. I'll check in once in a while for a chuckle. -
