Why focus on the economy? Because that's what wins elections I suppose. Majority of voters are most concerned about who can bring them more wealth and a better life.Originally posted by the Bear:i guess there was nothing about trying to improve the lot of the citizens (not economically but other things)
typical...
(argh... how come posted when i'm not finished?)
it is easy to prattle on about the economy and all that...
i wonder, is that all there is to it? the economy?
i guess accountants really have control of the world...

FOREIGN TALENTS DON'T VOTEOriginally posted by macjoe:On the topic of talent, I think PM contradicted himself.
Saying Mr Brown, a local, is talented and instead of using his talent, went on air to bring him down further is bad handling of talents that dare to speak up on issues humorously.
Why crave for foreign talents at the expense of local talents?
Is it because foreign talents don't give the kind of problems that local talents do?
Actually, I prefer they don't do NS unless they want citizenship, we should slap on a security tax on PRs and use that tax to pay NSF and NS man true economic wages as though they get as regulars.Originally posted by macjoe:To ask Singaporeans to be big-hearted for foreign talents to migrate here without serving NS really piss me off.
Can the government tell us the actual numbers/percentages of foreign talents who are living here and how many of their children really do NS?
To ask us to be big-hearted, one must show big-heartedness to Singaporeans first!
The way it's being put, now I feel really marginalised to second-class kind of citizenship. First-class immigrants don't need to serve NS - second-class local citizens must.
