Many felt it touched their lives.
One was glad that it wasn't just about dollars and cents.
Even foreign-born citizens wanted their say.
Channel NewsAsia spoke to Singaporeans among the lunchtime crowd at Raffles Place, one day after PM Lee Hsien Loong's speech on Sunday.
They said they liked what they heard from PM Lee.
It was a speech that resonated with them, especially when the topics were close to their hearts.
"I quite like the part that he said that you know that Singaporeans need to have more babies. I feel that it is true," said a Singaporean.
"I'm glad it wasn't just about goodies and dollars....I think the Singapore psyche is really a lot more than just dollars and cents," said another. [/quote]
Those Singaporeans interviewed by CNA must be either fools - who will abandon dollars and goodies for 'babies' - or just that they have not reach child-bearing age, and have more than enough money to spend.
Where did CNA conduct the interview - in Orchard Road, or in the HDB Heartland ?

The Prime Minister's message on immigration also struck a chord with many Singaporeans.
They said that new immigrants add diversity.
And for those who have just arrived on our shores, they said that Singapore is a most welcoming home away from home.
"I'm here for more than 15 years now. For the local culture, I am used to it, I like the Singapore style," said one immigrant turned citizen.
"It means that you are all inclusive, that you welcome other people and not so protective," said another immigrant.
"People are very forthcoming, so that's a good sign that people are welcoming newcomers here," said a third.
"........Given a chance, definitely, I feel it's a good place to settle down," said a fourth.

Malaysia, the problem was the “deep political differences” between the former prime minister and Abdullah.

Lee made reference to Malaysia and several other Asean countries as he elaborated on the outlook and the challenges faced by the 10-member grouping which, he said, would indirectly affect Singapore.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he did not think that “deep political differences” in Malaysia could affect the “climate of Asean” as mentioned by Lee.
“Whatever differences there are, I would consider them purely domestic; and we will have to manage that without any adverse impact in terms of our economy, in terms of confidence towards Malaysia,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Najib said the current situation was still manageable.
“Whatever the differences, they do not really change government policies and the commitment to be business and investor-friendly,” he said. " -
The National Day speech had largely avoided our own domestic issues with high-sounding intellectual assessments of the general political situation around us.
The speech is also used to prepare Singaporeans for worsening domestic problems by blaming future events on presently identified weakening foreign issues.
Why was there no address to issues that Singapore can solve within our own borders that are not affected by Foreign Domestic Politics ?
Singapore's purchase of Shin Corp had opened up a can of worms that caused the present political uncertainties for Thailand's PM Thaksin - which could have been avoided if the Executives at Temasek had been more diligent in assessing all aspects of the takeover, and not taken matters for granted due to the good person-to-person relationship of the First Families.
Was Singapore not responsible for creating instability in Thailand, with the strongly objected take-over of Shin Corp ?
The amount of US$3.5 BILLION - spent on the takeover of a politically burdened Shin Corp - could have been spent for the benefit of Singaporeans - in the Opposition Wards of Potong Pasir, Hougang, or even for a [i]Sinking Fund[i] to support the medical expenses of needy Singaporeans suffering from Cancer, Aids, and Old Age problems.
What about the other BILLION DOLLAR ventures that Temasek and GIC had accumulated in their trek across the globe ?
There was no mention as to how these investments will benefit Singapore or Singaporeans; and the funds are from the surplus of Direct and Indirect Taxes collected from Singaporeans.
Are we suppose to be impressed with a worldly assessment of events around Singapore, while leaving real issues unattended ? -
Aiya.
They would rather spend money on foreign delegates in the coming IMF meeting than come up with a fraction of that money to improve the lives of the poor and needy in Singapore.

If our country was as big as U.S or Australia,i will definitely welcome foreign talents.But the thing is our country is only a "small island".So small on the map that those mapper has to put a "red dote" on the map below Malaysia to indicate our location.The size of our country is actually smaller than the "red dote"!!!
To make thing worse,our country is not situated in the middle of Pacific ocean or ATlantic ocean,with no other countries around us.So even when we reclaim land from sea,we will occasionally have some dispute with our neighbouring country.With our limited land,resources n tough situation at our regional areas,and yet our PAP leaders still want to act tough n stubbornly bring in so many foreigners.I have only 1 thing to ask them:Are You Guys Out of Your Mind????????????? -

In actual fact In shenzen, I was asked 2 arrange a fake marriage in order for the grl to get a PR here. The grl is offering me S$20k for the arrangement.
In my condo.they sleep at am work at 9 and come back during the hours of darkness and making so much noise. Fruk them man!
