"SINGAPORE'S manufacturing output in July went up 19.6 per cent compared to a year ago, the Economic Development Board said on Monday.
In the statement, it said that the seasonally adjusted index fell 2.2 per cent from June. Manufacturing output grew by 22.6 per cent in June.
The biomedical manufacturing cluster led the higher output by growing 52.6 per cent in July.The transport engineering cluster grew 44.2 per cent.
The electronics cluster grew 11.1 per cent. EDB said that the growth was due solely to the semiconductor segment, which grew 44.4 per cent. The data storage segment of the cluster fell 23.8 per cent as manufacturers move their factories out of Singapore.
The precision engineering cluster was up 9.2 per cent. The chemical cluster grew only 0.4 per cent. general manufacturing grew 2.2 per cent.
For the first seven months of the year, EDB said that manufacturing output was up 16.6 per cent over last year."

Without puncturing your good intentions, perhaps one should be cautious with a few factors before hopping on the bandwagon and celebrate.
The Biomedical Manufacturing Sector has been the most of active sector in leading the Singapore economy, and has been reported over the last few quarters.
However, as was said before - in some of your previous postings - how many Singaporeans qualify to work in the Biomedical Manufacturing sector ?
Even with retraining, how many existing workers from the Electronics Industry - or even the aged retired - can be retrained to work in this very specialised Biodmedical Manufacturing ?
Growth measure as a unit in output, or as a monetary value ?
This two are significant in determining growth and can distort the actual expansion of economic activity or economic growth. -

Nobody owes us a living. Foreign workers have as much a right to a better life as we do. If foreigners in third world nations can acquire the skills to work in our biomedical industries when we cannot re-train fast enough, we will lose our jobs to them. -

What solution do you have for those in their late forties and more, with educational levels that do not allow them to advance into new technological sectors ?
Do you abandon entire sectors of the population ?
You maybe able to sacrifice healthy cells with the removal of cancerous cells, can you do the same with Humans ?

Surely, the Government has a responsibility towards its Citizens - who have followed their urgings to move into specific commercial and industrial sectors, only to find that time has changed, and an entire generation of workers are now " obsolete ".
" Retooling " Humans is a different ball-game compared to "retooling" or " re-configuring " machines to reorientate to new technological levels.
