Magnificent.Originally posted by charlize:No lah, when all is said and done, the people at the top will still say they have done a manificent job in hosting this event.
The media will sing praises for a job well done, of enhancing Singapore's global reputation and giving the IMF delegates great memories.
You know the drill.
who cares about their effort? the bottom line is the reputation.Originally posted by CoolMyth:I think the people who were involved in the preparation of everything, from security, food, guides, etc etc will be so disappointed that everything they have contributed to this event will not be recognised and appreciated due to a silly decision made on 27 people.
If I were one of them, I will be damn disappointed. I pity those people, not the government.

i blame the idiots in our gabrament..
damn.. which part of NO did they fail to understand??
ok, who volunteered singapore to host the imf in 2003?Originally posted by LazerLordz:the thing with this administration and the ones before, is that they have this mindset that our exceptional nationalism is the best in the world and we can deal with the world our own way, in the most fundamentalist fashion.
We may not like it, but this is realpolitik, you cannot practise purist politics outside your own domestic sphere, and frankly, personally I would hae said no to hosting it here. What are the downstream benefits given the way we have done things?
Someone should be fired for this surrealistic lack of foresight.
sorry hor, there is no local media as far as I'm concerned.Originally posted by ditzy:Singapore has alot of explaining to do, not only to us. But the media will just play it down, I mean our media.![]()

but of course ... if one swallows everything the "global" media says, then it's simply another form of naivete eh ? ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:sorry hor, there is no local media as far as I'm concerned.
If you are the type that reads global media everyday, our newsletter seems like a construction of wonderland.![]()
the only clear winner here is Paul Wolfowitz. Anyone here knows if he's gunning for something more?Originally posted by Fatum:but of course ... if one swallows everything the "global" media says, then it's simply another form of naivete eh ? ...
c'mon, .... I expect you of all people to know what nasty pieces of turds these two organizations are ... you know what my friends from SHEEP are saying ? ... the IMF went in knowing full well that Singapore 2006 won't be like Seattle ... the IMF never had any interest in listening to any NGOs before in ANY meetings ...
suddenly, they have this huge interest in "listening" to protesters !!! ... note that the IMF have never, did not and probably will never schedule any meetings with them ... they are NOT REALLY INTERESTED ! ... it's all a wayang show for the media ! and now they are feigning surprise and disappointment at the garbarment's stand ? .... hmmmm .... slippery devils aren't they ? ...
we all have been taken for a ride ... and the IMF's the only one laughing ....
and some of us are still beating this issue to death ? ...
oh well ... *giggles ...
he's a republican ... and an ol' friend of our dear bushy .... surprised ? ...Originally posted by LazerLordz:the only clear winner here is Paul Wolfowitz. Anyone here knows if he's gunning for something more?
That's all I can say.
The global media has its agenda, the local media tries to build Disneyland, even bloggers among us like you and me have our own agenda. That's the only reality I gather.
Looking from the other side of the pond, it is quite humourous to see a neo-con like Wolfy "embrace" the tenets of free society.Originally posted by Fatum:he's a republican ... and an ol' friend of our dear bushy .... surprised ? ...

but it's interesting to see what sort of chaps are coming out of the woodwork on this ...
the silly decision on the 27 persons are made by those involved in security. Each should be proud of what he does. Those who cook should be proud if the delegates enjoy the food. If they insisted that everybody should enjoy singapore food and serve mee siam, laksa and curry fish head everyday, then they have reasons to be disappointed.Originally posted by CoolMyth:I think the people who were involved in the preparation of everything, from security, food, guides, etc etc will be so disappointed that everything they have contributed to this event will not be recognised and appreciated due to a silly decision made on 27 people.

Explaining? Whom to? The Singapore government has never thought itself accountable to anyone. Least so its citizens.Originally posted by ditzy:Singapore has alot of explaining to do, not only to us. But the media will just play it down, I mean our media.![]()
