It just seems that people, especially in the case of Muslims, are fiercely protective of the their Religion, Islam.
Cartoons and certain quotes would send them into street protest and start to bay for the blood of whoever said or drew anything even slightly offending to Islam... They seem to view critcism as an direct attack on their faith and start to have this siege mentality.
For other religion, such as Christianity, they seem to be more tolerant of criticism and view it as a test of their faith. Look at movies like Da Vinci code which actually doubts the origin of Christianity... Wonder what would happen if an similar show about Islam would Ignite?
Anyway, it would be best if we do not even comment on another's faith. Believe what you want but do not criticise what others want to believe. Applies for every religion. -

It's because politics have infiltrated the meaning of faith in this day and age. It's all about power and influence.

You can never totally separate religion and politics. As Cardinal Jaime Sinn, Archbishop Emeritus of Manila said, both are about people-to-people interactions, and they need to be governed by morals. That sums up exactly the situation for the majority of Muslims around the world now. They feel that their religion and beliefs are under siege ever since 9/11 and hence any comment that even vaguely resembles criticism will be interpreted as such. Hence it is important for people to be clear and careful about what they say regarding sensitive issues. I agree that religion does play a part in civil war. Even those from different branches of Christianity are at each otehrs throats. just awhile ago in iraq, sunnis and shiites were bombing the living sh|t out of each other, looks like commenting on another branch of islam by an islamic sect isnt very much tolerated either

I truly believe, before we make statements about other religions, it is best to gain in depth knowledge and understanding first before making claims and statements.
The world's best debaters of religion are all scholars in this field. So if our knowledge is minimal, its best to keep it to ourselves.

It is quite an irony in this case though. Islam is being "criticised" by the Pope for being a violent religion and one of the respond is "say sorry or I send sucide bomber after you"

just a personal observation:
when dealing with sensitive issues such as religion, race ...etc, its best not to make loose comment on them, one will never know how the other party will receive it and react on it.
(the best is, if nothing good to say, just don't say anything)
