Looks like no holiday plans for Thailand for the coming holidays seasons. They are now in coup. The military has taken over apparently.
Funny that this should happen 3 days after MM Lee says if there's a freak election result in SG, the military will have to "step in"....prophetic man!

wow, just read the latest article on the status of the thailand coup. its leading general quoted saying the ousted pm's asserts might be confiscated if there was evidence of corrruption..
Wat does this mean if the gahmen has already concluded the deal with thaksin over shin corp? because as far as i know, it has already being concluded months back..
Remember that thaksin changed the law and his family got to pocket the full amount of the deal without paying a single tax 2 the country.. -

Aiii dunno will the supreme general of thailand go retake the city or support the coup? If the supreme general is going to retake Bangkok there bound to be blood shed.

I think of concern is the number of troops that are still loyal to Thaksin, are they going to allow themselves to be commanded by this new junta or are they gonna bare arms to protect and preserve their vested interests.
However, since the King has come out on national TV and met openly with the coup leaders, I guess it shows on his part, tacit support for the coup. If the King supports it, I guess that repels whatever Pro-Thaksin sentiment left amongst the populance. The Thais hold reveared respect and adoraton for their king, and going against his prerogatives would be unthinkable. However, disillusionment amongst the popualnce to the coup would come in other forms. For example a break down of authority in areas with pro-Thaksin sentiments.
It'll be interesting to watch the developments in the coming days, especially new decrees drawn up by the junta. -
thaksin was not that politically savvy.....he snubbed the king, put his cronies in power and blocked many investigations into corrupt practices....the thing that screw it for him was none other then temasek....while i think they should be able to retain shin corp, the brand might stink and turn it into another bad deal....viva uniquely singapore......

it'll never happen here, all the sg generals are fast tracked scholars between mid 30s to early 40s....lack battle experience and cluessness and more importantly, they get rotated out even before the seats are warm...no where in the world do you have so many living present and past military chiefs at the same time.....apart from winston choo and ng jui ping, i've got no idea who the rest are..and that's already a long time since ex-general ng retired....
back to thailand. seems that thaksin foresaw this, and thus cashed out shin corp for 2 billion dollars......very smart....hmmm -
