We do not have enough regulars to hold a coup. -
At least for civilians and NSF (which makes a very big majority) will not support of coups. I don't think many ppl would like to see a military government in Singapore.

If one is to read the old Chinese classic like the "Water Margin", which was only telecast on channel 8, no doubt it will be realized that in history people do not stage a coup for no reason.
A coup in the Water Margin protrayed a group of bandits who were forced to become bandits simply because they were pursued by the merciless corrupt regime of the time until they had no way to turn except to join the bad hats in the mountain. At least that was the story line in this show.
Song Jiang the rebel chief was actually a most law-abiding minor official but he was framed for being a rebel for writing a stupid poem during his drunken state by the local corrupt offical to gain the latter's own promotion that finally he was forced to become a bandit himself.
Wu Song and others were similarly forced to turn bad because of corrupted officials who covered up the murder of his own brother. Wu Song took the law into his own hand and killed the corrupt official and had to flee to the famous Liang Mountain to join the rebels.
In the modern days, there are not so many mountains but if people are not treated well and were treated so badly they may come a day when many finally had no way to go except to join the rebellion. -

It actually doesnt take an entire army to stage a coup
Regular #'s would be enough to occupy key areas
secure parliment, secure ports and business districts, etc etc -

at worst, this is very wu liao....
there is no possibility a coup will happen in SG. the generals are paid too much to bother about this, why risk their titanium ricebowl?...the soldiers....they want to relak, go to a cinema with ger/boi frens or play computer games to be bothered about coup.... -
only if a military coup is sworn to enhance and build our democratic institutions, I might close one eye then.

No coup will happen in Singapore lah.
Probably every now and then, MINDEF will send an email out to all NS personel from the lowly clerk to the upstairs general stating that coups are strictly prohibited.
And below that email, a reminder (again!) that camera phones are also prohibited in the camps too.
