The planes may be able to be refulled in mid-air, but the pilots can only be changed on the ground. If there's an air battle, I doubt that there is going to be a high chance of getting pilots to fly back from far away and committ them into battle immediately. KC-135 is just an leap of deployments for oversea detachments/AirLift or long range strike for the Fighters -
gahmen has too much money to spend i suppose..with singapore being such a small state, i really dun see the need for the purchase of kc.. maybe gahmen wanted to invest in kfc franchise but forgot to place and "F" in it

most countries would get the most advanced military equipment that they could afford. in military context there is no such thing as a waste of money. there are many countries where their people are starving yet they spend tons and tons of money building up their military might, north korea for one.

i think the tankers are for, mainly US fighters or allies fighters transiting the region. For obvious reasons, no one will announce such things.
Given that the report comes from Malaysia itself, it is not surprising that it painted us as a nation with hostile intention. But if we look around ourselves, we are surrounded by potentially hostile neighbours ! Given the scenerio that Israel is facing, we have but no choice arm ourselves and "show" that we can put up a good fight if need be. Deterrance through show of arms.
I am not too sure about us having alot of F16s though, bcos I know most of the F16s are not based here. In two to three yrs time, when the Eagles arrive, i am sure more anxiety will be created up north, especially about some supposingly high-tech missles. How come it is that when they buy Su 30 and MBTs, we din say anything whereas when we purchase arms, theres always murmurs around ? Odd.
But allowing US to use our airbase & naval base serves only one purpose, another deterrant, aim to drag US into any conflict that we may have with our neighbours. -

I have seen the water usage to Sg army..wow! Like nobody business.
I felt pity with the people(including myself) of singapore...Such wasteful usage of water by sg army is on the expense of singaporeans
Many years ago, when I was in NS 1981 to 1983...I saw the cook house been throwing away tonnes and tonnes of food and wasting tonnes tonnes of water.
Why the food was thrown away? It was because the food was done in very bad way...:
1)vegetable was never been washed (we ate it with sand or dirt).
2) Scramble egg was done with foul smell and over cook.
3)Meat was also over cooked and not fresh.
In a few ocassions...I vomited after I put the food into my mouth.
Subsequently...
During my field training, if our excercises is provided with fresh ration...I'll never eat the dishes...sort of a torture that I only ate the plain rice!
My national service food provided by Ministry of Defence was a nightmare. -

True to say, none of us wants to be conscriped. I hated my NS as well, thinking its a waste of time. But then, if the armed forces is not by conscription but function like other countries, then what would be the size of our army ?
This situation is faced by countries with consricption - namely Taiwan, Korea - both you see, faced hostile neighbours and need bodies to fill the ranks in the army.
its a fact that we faced hostile neighbours, with or without conscription. This is due largely to our small size and "acheivements". Even in the animal world, the small usually genna eaten unless it can defend itself. -
