You not happy abt bus svsOriginally posted by qpicanto:not so much about blaming. more on poor governance particularly in the areas of providing adequate competition in public transport and greater transparency in the way PTC is run.
Why compeition??? You mean you really want buses to flood everywhere?? HK there there's no compeition but yet buses can arrive on timeOriginally posted by qpicanto:do we have real competition among the transport companies? not a new issue..
sometimes i wonder do we really need to to have mercedes, volvo buses.. u are a specialist in bus can we really cat some some cost if we switch to Japanese buses?
ask middle eastOriginally posted by pqr:is that y there is a drop in petrol prices few days ago?
1 way is to merge the 2 bus operatorsOriginally posted by qpicanto:so u saying our situation is best we can ask for??
people who are in this line like yourself can provide better insight whose opinions should be taken in when transport policy is formulated.Originally posted by sbst275:1 way is to merge the 2 bus operators
Then remove the duplicating svs, leaving the one left to upgrade with double deckers served... Then start to operate more buses like to CBD (There's a limit though still)
But ultimately, it's best if all buses are double deckers whenever possible
You ask me I dun understand why they went to buy more single decks in the 1990's for those svs that can use ddOriginally posted by qpicanto:people who are in this line like yourself can provide better insight whose opinions should be taken in when transport policy is formulated.
but is the govt listening?
u try to say 2axle can carry 78 seating 17 standing is a smaller version of double decker that we could consider? instead of single decker.?Originally posted by sbst275:You ask me I dun understand why they went to buy more single decks in the 1990's for those svs that can use dd
A 3axle double deck can carry 83 seating and 48 standing passengers which are for heavy demand rts like 147
Wheras a 2axle (Not available in SG) can carry 78 seating and 17 standing passengers compared to 40 seating and 40 standing passengers on a single deck.
Of course there are svs like 95, 96 & 151 that serves NUS that cannot use dd due to physical conditions like the slope
But seriously the way of promoting MRT as the backbone is totally wrong, the MRT can't be serving everywhere and now SMRT has reduced mileage travelled by train though ridership has increased
Yeah... But higher demand rts will continue to use the longer 3axleOriginally posted by qpicanto:u try to say 2axle can carry 78 seating 17 standing is a smaller version of double decker that we could consider? instead of single decker.?
and more taking shorter trips on train.
The trunk routes by buses now avoid the MRT to avoid duplication.
The debate on transport competition is now taken up by the govt mouthpiece.
That's the prob, MRT comes they remove all the links and make you take the train...Originally posted by qpicanto:3 axle double deckers, saw on papers the chasis we imported.. we save on building the rest of body locally. Glass Panels, seating and anything else?
Bus co saved on reduced CPF contribution by employer
They saved on cheaper COE
They saved on lower crude oil.....
But i think when circle line is completed buses' route sure got alot of changes.

Then u would have over crowding that kind of stuff. Our so call direct bus route is actually very long and winding. take for exapmle 502 from my side Jurong West to Marina Sqaure is actually more than one hour. rather take the train.Originally posted by sbst275:That's the prob, MRT comes they remove all the links and make you take the train...
Everything all throw to the MRT to serve, no wonder it's already reached it's max

no software installed to readOriginally posted by sbst275:502 is the weird one
From Toh Guan Rd to Orchard CK Tang takes 40 mins wheras the MRT takes 70 mins... Jurong West Extn of course takes longer...
But defintely the way everything MRT serves the thinking has to go
You see the damage inflicted by the MRT rationalisation -> It's in chinese though http://www.zaobao.com/yl/yl060923_506.html
Feeder services buses likely to stay, no new announcment on new LRTs other than one in Jurong. Still trains cannot replace the buses but they save in being driverless.Originally posted by sbst275:That's the prob, MRT comes they remove all the links and make you take the train...
