We need to amend the PM term to two terms. Since we've more or less taken the Westminster doctrine and tweaked it to kingdom come, one more amendment shouldn't hurt.Originally posted by Anycall:Well for one, we should hold elections every 3 years. Chee Soon Chuan wrote a book entiltled "Dare to Change".PM called on the youth to change things if they were unhappy, It doesn't mean PM copy Chee's idea but he does call for "dare to change" too.

The old guard is more open and the new guard is asking people to change if their not happy.
It is just that, their perception of changes is difference from that of the people. And the PM never, never state a must change on their part !!!
In order to realise his call,I have the following opinions:
1. The govt should be receptive & facilitate changes proposals which are intitiated by the ppl.
They state "should be" not must be. So 1% of changes is also quite a bit on their part
2. PM & his ministers can show leadership by initiate changes more regularly.They are paid to do political work while the ppl are not.
Ask them to cut their pay, as economy is no good or the investment is loosing money. See if their willing to change
3. Would the govt prepare to give incentive or rewards for such kind of endeavor?I think it should.
Yes, the degree of incentives or rewards will varies with how strong you want them to change. The stronger your requirement the more they will want you to go bankrupte -

The incumbent should allow people with new ideas and abilities to rise up and review all past and existing policies for at least one term after he has served a maximum of two terms.
After two terms and lapse of one term to test out new ideas and talents if the ex-PM is still in demand and has proven himself as worthy of continuation, he could then stand again for the PM post. In this way we could avoid autocracy or dictatorship which is too narrow and self-centred for long-term good or stability of any country.
If PM Lee wants to change, as he has told people to do so, he should work towards decentralising the political power concentrated in a few to a larger group of ministers and professionally objective and responsible dare-to-speak-up back benchers and capable oppositions who can also contribute in polishing up policies and checking on self-centredness practices.
Good MPs, good ministers and good ex-PM should also be allowed to serve again after a lapse of one term since we are a small country where human resource is limited and should be put to good use.
If PM Lee really wants people to make demand for change and regards change as good as the old system so far is too narrow and limited in mobilizing people towards mass participation and vibrancy, then he should consider the above-stated suggestion. -

Considering that we have elections every 5 years, one can be a PM for at least 10 years. 10 years should be long enough to do something. From my experience,it is really difficult to get things changed.Civil servants' attitude are mostly negative.Ministers don't care to intervene.
