Najib: We canÂ’t cancel Singapore investments,26 Sep 2006---/www.nst.com.my
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia cannot cancel all Singapore investments as it could send wrong signals to investors, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said the country needed foreign direct investments but it must also ensure that FDI did not affect the countryÂ’s interests and ownership of strategic sectors and industries.
"Otherwise it would create dissatisfaction among the people or raise adverse implications to the countryÂ’s security.
"Leave it to the government to weigh the matters, on a case-by-case basis," he said.
Najib was asked to comment on Johor UmnoÂ’s call for the government to cancel all projects that would benefit Singapore more than it would benefit Malaysia, especially the proposed Kuala Lumpur-Singapore Bullet Train project.
Johor Umno also asked that Malaysia stop taking into consideration SingaporeÂ’s interests when implementing projects under the RM15 billion Johor South Corridor development and that it review its overall relations with the city state.
The calls followed SingaporeÂ’s Minister Mentor Lee Kuan YewÂ’s remarks that Chinese in Malaysia were being systematically marginalised.
The former Singapore Prime Minister was quoted as saying that the attitude of Malaysia and Indonesia towards Singapore was shaped by the way they treat their own ethnic Chinese minorities.
An official of the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur when contacted yesterday, said that he had not received any reaction from the Singapore government on the issue.

Doesn't matter whether our forces are built to fend off these two countries, because once there is a military confrontation, our economy is blown to bits.Originally posted by sgboy2004:wat if they combine force?
