Indeed, people have died during NS...Originally posted by Rock^Star:Well, I have personally seen one Indian (from India) mother who claims that she knows the Lee family and asked for her son to be exempted from NS so that he may study in the US.
Awww.....the ultimate lame. What was she thinking? That her son may die in NS or something like that?![]()

In his twilight years, MM LKY seems to have a bad tendency to reminisce, perhaps to make himself relevant; as the truth of what he had said refers to the past - during the Mahathir's and Habibie's period in office - NOT THE PRESENT.Originally posted by NuLife:Our neighbours always say false things about singapore
and now MMlee say one true fact, many bent towards Malaysia.
How pathetic.
No Apologies needed. Its the plain Truth.

In his twilight years, MM LKY seems to have a bad tendency to reminisce, perhaps to make himself relevant; as the truth of what he had said refers to the past - during the Mahathir's and Habibie's period in office - NOT THE PRESENT.
It has been three years since Badawi and Bambang have taken over the leadership; and with Bambang being the third Indonesian President since the small minded Habibie was unceremoniously voted out of office.
Prior to Bambang's term, we have seen the blind President Wahid Abdulrahman and Sukarnoputri [b]both turning to Singapore for morale support and economic co-operation.
Singapore had 3 years of good and quiet relationship with Badawi, and more than 9 years of improved relationship since the ruckus with Habibie.
Why did MM LKY dig up old historical issues - and on international stage that smudge the image of our neighbors - by stirring up the painful historical events of Singapore's relationship with our two bigger neighbors ?
Why did MM LKY use their internal domestic ethnic issues that has NO BEARING to describe the PRESENT NEW relationship between Singapore and our bigger neighbors ?
Did MM LKY update himself with the new events in Malaysia and Indonesia, or is he still living in his old memories of contentious ethnic issues of fighting for a small economic pie ?
Both Malaysia and Indonesia have changed their domestic policies towards the Chinese - although seemingly small steps, it is nonetheless a far improvement from the darker days that MM LKY remembers during the 1960s through the mid-1990s.
MM LKY has got it wrong on both counts - he has not updated himself with the current policies of Malaysia and Indonesia; and he has not considered that the new Malaysian and Indonesian leaderships have not co-erced Singapore's Leadership in the same manner as past leaders of Malaysia and Indonesia.
In Indonesia's case, even under the 30 years of Suharto's rule, LKY seems to have forgotten his warm relationship with Suharto, with glowing words of admiration mutually given.
Since Suharto's unfortunate downfall, MM LKY has not been short of critical, condescending and patronising comments towards an 'Old Friend'.
Mahathir's caustic remarks of Singaporean leaders being a 'fair weather' friend seems to ring sharp and loud as any bell can ring.
With friends like LKY, do the leaders of Malaysia and Indonesia need any enemies ?
Do we need to look deeper for the toughness of Malaysian and Indonesian Politicians shown towards the Singapore Government under the leadership of LKY - whether he is the PM or MM ?
