someone i know went to a big international shipping company and found that most of their workers are PRCs.
the reason being they are paid less than $1k while singaporeans demand much more. -
why am i not surprised.

Yesterday, my father have a conversation with a kopi shop cleaner from China, from that fellow, he claims the typical salary is 800 bucks, but he is willing to settle for 600 bucks, thus he is employed. I'm not surprised that soon the low lvl jobs are going to be filled up by PRCians.

This is BAD - for locals that is.
On the other hand, it is GOOD for business operators and companies large or small.
But over the long run, we will have a growing pool of rather bitter and resentful locals who low-end jobs are lost to PRCs.
And mind you, these aren't Talent Intensive occupations that the PRCs are robbing our locals of.
But one glimmer of hope though; one fine day, when China inevitably suffers inflation due to their accelerated growth, these PRCs who excepted low salaries will begin leaving as their salary no longer foot bills back home...
The rule of "What Goes Up, Must Come Down" will always apply, as much as "What Went Down, Will Surely Rise Again"! -
I think, to know how long these PRCs can come here and wreak havoc to local job market, one should look into China's economic progresses and changes in spotting the onset of INFLATION.
I believe INFLATION in China is inevitable as it is inevitable here in Singapore.
So eventully, it will no longer make profitable sense for PRCs to come here and undercut low-end job wages, as their own cost of living back home increases. -
Yes, I believe we need not rant about PRCs or FTs from China anymore.. because they can't keep this up due to impending INFLATION in their own country.

Actually, I m quite pity them for they hve to pay the middle man a large sum of $ b4 they can come over here to work.
I understand PRC china national pays between S$10k to S$20K 2 work as a construction worker in Spore.
All these suckers instead of earing a profit from construction work they make the $ from these poor foreigners!! -
erm, I came from construction industry......On a personal note, yes they look pitiful actually.....I actually was quite stunned when i heard my colleague scolding them & asked why he did that? Of the lot, indians, bangladeshis, thais, burmese & PRCs.......the worse are PRCs. You need to be in the trade to know what I just said. -

locals shun the jobs as menial ... foreigners and new immigrants see them as opportunities ... at the three nearest Mcdonalds in the city were I'm in, the only ang mohs in the whole resturant would be the two managers ...
what do you expect those fastfood chains to do ? ... can't get enough students, can't get enough old uncles and aunties to wipe the table .... get robots for the job ? ....

But they are also known for quality work but for $$$ they are prepared to fight to the courts
Bangala on the other hand, had one bonking some pple's maid & got caught in the act by maid's boss -
more and more companies are employing PRCs. i think even the malaysians in singapore are finding it hard to compete with them for jobs.
