I think the biggest problem with cpf is that it punishes the low income earners, as a result of its one size fits all approach.

Yes, I'm sure the gov can trace or ensure if money is released to an individual, it must be proven without doubt, that it is towards medical care or medication for a certified and recognized illness.
If they just say NO to everyone, then those who are really sick, jobless because of age hence cannot pay for medicals to address their ailments. This way, the gov is forcing people to an early grave!!!
A common ailment such as Diabetes, combined with High Blood, and High Cholestrol, costs around $200+ per month. So if a person settles for any menial job that pays $1,000gross p/mth - how is he or she to survive?
I think our gov lack heart for all the brains they have...

I think when LKY and LHL see threads by all of us here, they will be saying, "These Singaporeans really don't know how tough it is to run a country, armchair critics only. Our CPF is already so well planned and run and they still complain. What to do?"

Bottom line is that CPF will never be enough for roughly 80% of sillyporeans
Want to earn more and get other benefits...I suggest migration. Sillypore claims to world class....my foot....other places may also be tough to work in but at least there are other benefits to be had and teh government takes care of you when you are old. No place is perfect I agree but there are places better that Sillypore
Summing up...Sillypore looks good on the surface but peel away the veneer, all the shortcomings show up -
I think the CPF is good but is not perfect. But I seriously think that reducing CPF contribution and calculation ceiling is crap!
Look at before the CPF reduction, employer and employee contribution calculated at the ceiling of $6k yields $2400 a month. Today, the ceiling has been capped at $5k and a payout of less than $1300 a month.
Who benefits? Employers and our govt happens to be the largest employer in the country.
Where is the restoration they promise us? And our PM can asked us whether we want our job or restoration. -

Makes you wonder why are we paying so much for these minister eh? They keep saying that welfare state will bankrupt the govt. I think reducing their salary should help. Putting these money into good hands (NOT Ho Ching's) will help. -

Yup I do agree with you on that point dragg...I and many others have already crossed over to other countries. Though not perfect, I can definitely tell you its much better. There is still the obligatory hard work and perserverence in making it work in our new homes but hey...its fun
Unlike Sillypore, where everything is so sanitized, safe and superficially perfect. Didn't someone tell the upstairs people that a little danger is good to put you on your edge, heighten your senses and make your more competitive...and to think they are asking us to be competitive...

Its one to to make promises before election, on national day rally, give goodies before election, say nice things that sound sensible on the surface.
Its another thing to execute the promises, collect back the goodies X 10 time, give us statistics that has no basis, increasing the prices and their salaries the moment economy seems to be looking a bit better.
The people at the top cry for talent and then go employ foreigners, they cry for creativity, then they start to put in 101 rules, committees and obstacles, they then cry for more babies but the cost of living is going up, education is costing a bomb, and bring up children in this stressful environment to suffer like us is a great sin...

It's really taking your money, give it to you for a while and you return it to them in the same month to pay the bills -
progress package was never intended to stay in your pocket. It was intended to be used as a means to pull more money out from you. Once there is "progress" package, the prices of basic good will rise - electricity, taxi, medicines, transport and etc. Next the price of food will go up, then economy is 'better', employment is "up", tax will rise, gst will need adjustment, our great "leader" need a new property in Switzerland so their salary will increase, CPF contribution by employers might cut once again because singapore is not attracting enough investors but the price of JTC/office rentals are artificially booted up to ensure high profit for all the GLC to earn high profits.Originally posted by Rock^Star:True u got a point.
