recently, the govt implemented a new type of system for the primary school students. they have seemingly abolished the streaming of primary 3 students, opting instead for a subject-based style of classifying students. wad do u tink of tis? will tis system move education in singapore to new heights? or is it gonna cause local education to plunge? air ur views here...

It will eventually backfire on them....unless they make the changes throughout the whole darn system then it'll be good...because shoving every single kid through the same kind of system isn't really the best way to do it.
Streming is one good way of course....
But to stream in terms of academic ability is a bit...myopic...
Every kid deserves to learn in their own way...
We all cant learn in terms of scholastics...as this will only produce people who are very good at reading but are clueless about people who experience...all they know is...reading is good...make mistakes bad...
the capacity for the system to allow people to make mistakes...thats the problem... -

YEs, this is very true The JC system just changed into a messy system this yr ... and it is a mess. Schools are wonder, how to teach, how much to teach. Whether or not it will bring education in Singapore to new heights will depend on the students' ability to adapt. If they aren't, the policy is just an utter failure. well, i can onli say tat the govt is trying to be fair here...for so many yrs we have been using the overall performance method of streaming students. students were streamed according to their overall percentage at end of yr...nw govt is implementing a subject-based method of categorising students...like every other system, tis is nt perfect but it gives young students the opportunity to be focused on their specialities...students gd at maths for eg. no longer need to miss out on taking all the maths subjects juz cos they didnt do well in their overall results(which is based on other subjects like humanities n languages)...
so at the end of the day, such students will be happy but those who favor an all-rounded overall system will complain...well, u cun have the best of both worlds in an imperfect world... -
Well, you can't please everyone.
Being a secondary 4 student myself, I cannot help but whelp at the rate the "gahmen" is changing the system all the time. I look back at the old years of Singapore's infancy and ponder of life back then: people were (slightly) more polite, everything was going at a relaxed pace, et cetera... And now look at us in A.D. 2006. RUde, fast paced, changing all the time...
I'm not complaining that change is bad, or the gahmen is doing a terrible job. Well, at least they're good at changing things, but they need to understand that they're putting a lot of pressure on us students and our teachers. And then they blame us for not being able to respond fast enough.
Think about it: Every year the MOE secretly pushes a few topics off Mathematics and Sciences down the grades (of course, they counterbalance by pushing some up the grades, but that's besides the point). It's nice to know that we're being treated as valuable human resources, but we, after all, are human, not computers. We cannot calculate at the speed of light. And, being organic, we cannot evolve at a rate faster than we change our underwear.
P.S. Did you know that americans do calculus only at "college" (universities)? Or so I read.
