Really.
WTFOriginally posted by kilua:Many of my peers, bright and well educated have packed up and left. It's what MM Goh called "quitters". It's sad but true, Singapore no longer is a place where one can hope to work hard their lives and retire graciously. It's really the push factor.

She is articulate! and you know what else? Her views 'hold water'! No doubt she's arrogant (understatement), but I have to say I agree with her partially. From the way she has presented her arguments, it's very obvious she didn't just get through our education system being daddy's little girl.Originally posted by kaister:wow... I hate to admit but she's quite articulated when presenting her views.
She should count herself lucky for being born into a family of prestige. Not everyone has a chance. Not everyone was spoonfed until the day they work.
Grow up little kid. You might achieve more than most of us due to your cursed connections but in our eyes, you're nothing but a pathetic b1tch.
Oh yes, go cry to your mommy.
hmm.....this sort of articulation is very common. if rj people do not have this standard, then something is wrong.Originally posted by rmyfrm:She is articulate! and you know what else? I think quite a number of you are reading too deeply into her background. She isn't the only Singaporean like that, and she definitely isn't one of the few.
It is a fact of life that when you're doing well, everything seems alright and nothing appears bad - even if there is something negative from an objective standpoint, you probably wouldn't even care about it, because you're doing well - vice versa.
She may be academically smart but obviously she was not thinking straight when she decided to express her personal views in her blog.Originally posted by kaister:I think she took down her blog already... that's fast.
This is not how the world should work! Reward those who were born smart so that they can show off to others? How about those mentally challenged? They should just die off?Originally posted by rmyfrm:She is articulate! and you know what else? Her views 'hold water'! I agree with you kaister. BUT:Originally posted by kaister:This is not how the world should work! Reward those who were born smart so that they can show off to others? How about those mentally challenged? They should just die off?
All derrek was saying is that people who works hard to the best of their abilities are still finding it hard to survive. "White horses" climb faster and have an easier life, because they're good in what they do? Maybe. But most of the time, it's because the path has already been laid out for them. They hardly have to fight for what they will achieve.
Ya I know. Not mad at you but frustrated at how this world works.Originally posted by rmyfrm:I agree with you kaister. BUT:
This girl, annoying as she is, has made it through, despite being consciously aware of her 'connections' and that at any moment she should desire, she can use these 'connections' to propel her through the world. I give her credit for that.
However, I don't think I can say the same for a good number of others. I have this Uni mate who has failed 6 out of 8 units, and yet, he has gone on to work with (I'm not going to give away the industry I'm in - some privacy online is always a good ideaheh) - because he has an auntie, who is in (still not giving away ~). Yet for me, I have to put in 40hours/week just to ensure I get through Uni relatively successfully, in order to secure a job upon graduation.
We all have to work for what we want. If you have connections, without working hard you'd be f**k*d. If you have connections, and you work hard, your future is set (however annoying you are). If you don't have connections, and you work hard, that's the position of your average Singaporean - its really uncertain and it all depends on opportunity and luck.
What is the definition of success my friend? Financial well-being?Originally posted by kaister:Ya I know. Not mad at you but frustrated at how this world works.
