i ever came across someone who was earning 7-8k until he was retrenching...he has worked for the company for over 17 years...and a few more years before retirement....
but he was retrenched...simply cos the management wanted to save that amount of money ....they hired 4 foreign talents from india with that amount that they were paying the man...
he was out of job for a long while...lucky for him...he has got some saving...and he sold his car...
he ended up as a taxi driver...
he was not very well-educated...but climbed his way up based on his hard work...
the ending would have been diff...if this man here, din have any saving...and has got mouths to feed at home...bills to clear....he might just do the same.... -

Thats why sg need to open more projects to create high pay as well as low pay and low skill jobs.

10 over years ago my mother who was around the same age as the wife of the deceased then went for a production operator job. she went to the factory and because electronics stuffs are very small, my mother eyesight wasn't good and she kinda delay the process. after a few hours, she was asked to GO.
now is year 2006, and it's even more competitive and got to compete with those very young foreign workers from china, india, malaysia etc.
totally agree that when someone is really depressed they lose hope in everything already and they end up doing things most people will never understand.
if we can regulate our mindset and thinking, then we no need to set up IMH already -

for those who can't or don't read Chinese, basically lots of Singaporeans had donated to the family once the news is out and by now the family should have received at least 30,000 cash. The RC will also provide psychological and other assistance for the family. It is also reported that the family had never approached the RC for assistence, something which I though we should all worked on.
I'm glad that since the news has been out, people immediately volunteered to help and I think that despite how some people think that Singaporeans act like pigs, there's still a pretty side of Singaporeans.
BTW, I'm currently overseas but I would like to help to. Can anyone tell me where to send my assistance to? -

I do think questions should be ask and answers be found but are we right to be questioning the family? If we found the answer, what can we do? We still need the govt to make policy changes if this is not an isolated case.
So, therefore, I am merely suggesting that let the right people do what they can/are suppose to do. We can't help by asking question so let's start by helping; leaving the questioning to the govt. -
