Residents Committee - Are they worth it?

Do you know the members in ur area's residents committee?
Have they done anything in ur area?
For mine, the RC in my area enjoys karaoke...so much they even had they own mini-concerts under the guise of some forms of community gathering...
Singing Competition, always the same old few...singing chinese oldies...i am rather surprised...in the days where superstar reality shows are all over the place, no youngster enroll in the singing competition?
Always, there will be some dunno what events that will end up with some lunch or dinner buffet...and the amount thy ordered is so much, that u wun believe they were only meant for just 20 paxs....
What's ur view on RC?
I think we dun really need them -

can laa... most of them retirees who got nothing to do at home and has all the money they can spend in their short life span that they are having now. -

Somemore, after events where they have stage one, some of the karaoke club members will take the chance to deafen the whole neighbourhood with their singing

worst still they even have prizes...
so i guess the contestants can decide what prizes they want to receive in advance....
oh yes...another benefit....RC member's children will have priority when registering for primary school...

To hold off residents from ever meeting their MP. Otherwise MPs would need 3 qna sessions per week, instead of just 1.

at least your rc has activities... the one where i live is dead....apart from collecting commissions from private tutors using their office, there's no activity at all....super dead rc....bunch of insipid dudes occupying space....i think they get priority over parking and what not, which happens to be a treasured item in this over crowded car park.....Originally posted by Mospeada:Do you know the members in ur area's residents committee?

Personally I think its great that it exists. Lots of older folks have something to do with their time outside of work, or after they retire and maintain a healthy social life.
It is COMMUNITY service.. so they do plan activities (at least those around my block do) its just that most of us dont join all the block parties and all that. But they do provide cheaper source of tuition, activities, social gatherings for lower income groups especially.
If they dont come with a political agenda, it would be perfect. -

Well, I think the 'benefits' are available to all those who join and since membership is open to ALL residents, then everyone has equal opportunity to obtain the 'benefits' since all have the right to join, right? They don't have some pre-requisite or anything, just got to spend time there, that's all I guess.
But yeah, unfortunately the RC is used to translate political messages and filter it to the heartland areas. But I do not think all who join have have a political agenda - most are just uncle auntie with nothing much to do ba.
Oh yes, and btw... RC is not 'stationed' at CC.. CC is under perview of their own CCmanagement committees. -
i know they have some events during festives somewhere downstairs.

RC?? not easy u know?? must carry so many balls... then carry wrong balls they kena... carry correct balls other ppl see already not happy.... then all the backstabbing among themselves..i shoot u.. u shoot mi.. just on who can ta bao leave over food after some meeting... very very hard job lah.. give them a break ok?
