Actually everything was hunky dory and Singaporeans were more or less living harmoniously with each other until some people at the top started bringing up the topic that elites were supposed to lead society.Originally posted by #$%^&*:I feel this is really much ado about nothing.
Why should anyone pay special attention to her blog, an 18 year old teenager?
Should you pay attention to Steven Lim blog?
Should you pay attention to thousands of other young people, talking and ranting about anything under the sun and in any manner as they like?
I feel that this phenomenon is a bit ugly, it shows the predatory instinct of some section of Singaporeans, who really just want to find something bad or ugly to attack and vent their frustrations, especially towards 'elitism' or whatever it is called. Something like this shows up, people pounce, like a tiger.
It is a little worrying for me, because she is just a teenager writing a blog, a non-issue, and, it is a private thing, should not be extended to her father who is coincidentally holding a public office and therefore politically flogged. To me this is an uncomfortable and awkward privacy intrusion on family relations.
It was daft to talk about the obvious...the truth hurts.Originally posted by charlize:Actually everything was hunky dory and Singaporeans were more or less living harmoniously with each other until some people at the top started bringing up the topic that elites were supposed to lead society.
From then on, the term "elite" took on more meaning than it should and started people thinking about the widening social divide.
So whose fault?
You are right. Privacy intrusion, as claimed by Wee Siew Kim, has no meaningOriginally posted by BillyBong:If people possess the same mindset as you, then the future of SG is really in dire straits.
No one would have bothered had the writer been some anonymous blogger posting their usual rants. It was the person behind it that raised eyebrows.
Wee Shu Min was and still is, perhaps one of our brighter talents. Considering the fact that she is under a Raffles scholarship and studying at RJC ranks her as one talent earmarked for our future.
What shocks people is the manner in which a bright emerging talent has heaped scorn on an average person, simply for mouthing legitimate issues. Worst, she conveniently assumes Derek Wee to be nothing more than a 'leech', a waste to society; one of those who is unwilling to work hard to earn his ricebowl. She goes on to sweep his concerns aside in the same 'elite' manner as some of our superfluous and aloof leaders in the current administration.
It shows the arrogant and dismissive mindset of our 'elite' class, and if left unchecked, will ultimately lead to a growing dissent among the 'peasant' population. Not only do our leaders have it, their children carry the same streak.
Like a cancer.
Is it 'predatory instincts' that provoke our people? Or simply the grave concern that is mounting? Despite all the warning signs, people continue to accept our govt leaders 'elite' status, offering little more than apathetic complaints degrading to coffeeshop talk. And the more we say nothing, the more these so-called pompous 'elites' believe they are such. The facade mushrooms until the famed meritocracy model becomes just another flawed ideal.
Being 'politically flogged' as you so aptly put it, is merely part and parcel of entering politics. Your words are scrutinized in vivid detail, dissected and analysed between the lines. What you say is no longer private, except the words "no comment".
'Awkward privacy intrusion'? Hardly. Since Ms Wee was willing to post her audacious and brutal comments on the net, privacy has no longer any meaning.
Hip hopping and blogging by these post 65 MPs are only scratching the surface.Originally posted by ditzy:Anyone read today's newpaper about PAP MP Sin Boon Ann bringing up the topic about social divide? He also mentioned about MPs hip hopping and blogging only scratching the surfaces. I think those are pretty relevant points.![]()
I'm not happy about paying them to rehearse hip hop. They're not dancers.Originally posted by charlize:Seriously, are we paying too much to the MPs if all they can do is tell us to stop whining and solve our own problems?
Hate to break the news to you, but people like her will likely be your next generation leaders.Originally posted by thinker:IMHO, banish all those talents (local or foreign) who are discerning about their fellow citizens. These people will not make the right decision or policy in the goodwill of the country and her people, since they always have a selfish or uncaring mindset.
I seriously hope Ms Wee Shu Min will not take up leadership or high position in future that will affect lives of Singaporean. Let her live in her own elite well, and disappear when life-time is up. We, Singaporeans, do not advocate such selfish and discerning mindset. If her thinking propagate, Singapore will be the worst and frigtening place to be rooted.![]()

I, as a Singaporean, do not respect and regard her as my fellow country mate. Her words are dividing this country and making more people despising them. Even animals, show feeling for each other.
Another question in view is whether there is a serious flaw in the educational institutions that she had attended or is currently attending which shape her mindset and view from young till now. Or is it caused by her family upbringing?

Indirectly or directly, it will affect you, your friends, your fellow country mates and your loves one.
Bottomline is whatever is happening around you or whether some potential talent or bright student wants to rant and blog...don't care whatever they do
We all work hard and make our own fortune. Our life is what we make it out to be...work hard and smart...whether in Sillypore or overseas....why do we always bother about what these people do...at least one thing is for sure...we know how our so-called bright students and their fathers think these days....no wonder the father chose to keep silent lest he be told to get out of other peoples' humble caring faces....
Best solution, let us all leave this red dot and open the floodgates to PRC and INdia
Totally agreed.Originally posted by Coquitlam:That is why I encourage all those who can to leave Sillypore.....seriously those who stay behind can care about who comesinto power...likewise those who leave, including me, who already number in the thousands...we have a choice also and we choose to walk with our feet...
And how do we help those we love??? We help sponsor them over and help look for jobs for them...that's how we help
What's more scary is that she may return next time as your MP in your constituency.Originally posted by seancannot:will her father contest in the next election or ever take up a minister post , i doubt so ,,, anyway two term of MP ship is a lot money ... so it is probably enough. for him
