If we can't even solve our 20 years time problem, you want to talk about 200 years time problem?Originally posted by the Bear:and i'm talking about the extinction of a planet if this increasing of population and stripmining of the planet to feed the population stays this way...
Let's calculate it slightly simpler, assuming a normal child studying at a normal institution.Originally posted by rojak12:I am proposing to solve a long term problem. Since not having enough babies are causing so much loss of $$$ and social related issues which in terms costs $$$, by solving this, there will be a BIG BIG PROFIT in the end!
How is the cost of education being arrived? If you pay a tuition fees of 10K per year and the course size is 500, are you saying to run that particular course for 1 year, it will need $5 000 000? Think about it lah. $ 5 million for 1 year, $20 million for 4 years. If really so expensive, I want to see how these numbers are arrived.
If whenever a proposed solution comes up and someone says who pay, up tax etc, then we go back to the original equations. Pay and pay, work very hard, no time, no baby.
The only way to increase the birthrate of Singapore is to have more sex without contraception.Originally posted by rojak12:If we can't even solve our 20 years time problem, you want to talk about 200 years time problem?
The topic here is to discuss how to increase the birthrate of SINGAPORE, not about the "problems" it will bring.
Steady lah.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Let's calculate it slightly simpler, assuming a normal child studying at a normal institution.
Figures plugged out from MOE website, with the exception of pre-school education.
3 years of pre-school - fees at $20 per month
20 X 12 = $240 per year
240 X 3 = $720 at the end of 3 years.
6 years of primary school - fees at $11 per month
11 X 12 = $132 per year
132 X 6 = $396 at the end of 6 years
4 years of secondary school - at $21 per month
21 X 12 = $252 per year
252 X 4 = $1008 at the end of 4 years
2 years of pre-university education - at $28 per month
28 X 12 = $336 per year
336 X 2 = $672 at the end of 2 years
University education at $6110 per semester
Assuming 4 years of education, there's a total of 8 semesters.
6110 X 8 = $48880
Total cost - $48880 + $672 + $1008 + $396 + $720 = $51676 per child.
To have that 2.1 ratio, that means having about 40000 babies per couple.
51676 X 40000 = $2 067, 040, 000 --> Total amount we spend on education
That's assuming a normal route ONLY. If you consider the independent schools, autonomous schools that we have, it's not even this amount.
And I'm also assuming that the university fees won't increase during their study.

Never in my reply did I say it will work. And it is not meant to be implied that it will work either. I'm only questioning if it will work.Originally posted by rojak12:Thanks, you are saying it will work. Thanks.
As for who pays, who do you think should pay? You mean, GST, COE, Transport, Utilities, Housing(Leasehold somemore), company tax, etc, IRs, still not enough?
By setting up high level committees, advert, campaign, baby bonus, survery etc, these are free meh? And what is the impact?
Originally posted by rojak12:Or is it?
Cannot. Whatever proposed solution cannot add any pressure to social related issues (single and young parent etc). Remember, the family is the basic building block of any society.
Look at USA. Their biggest cost is social problem, not military spending or defence budget.
We need to lower the cost of bring up children and education is one of the big piece, if not, the biggest.
And I still think you don't realize that you answered the question yourself.Originally posted by rojak12:I think you don't realise the exact meaning and impact of a country population replacement ratio. We are talking about social related issue if birth rate stays this way.
I don't have to calculate it, because I am experiencing it. All I am saying is, education is free, not the latest handphone/laptop must be included.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Never in my reply did I say it will work. So I'm assuming that who's paying are we ourselves, the citizens? GST, COE, transport, utilities bla bla bla, do you think it's enough?
And it's just assuming the students' education only. Teachers' salaries, the cost of running a school, books, exam fees, and what nots the schools buy, ARE NOT INCLUDED YET. Will such things be sponsored? If yes, how much more does the government pay?
Calculate and see who wins last.![]()

you know why solar power never took off? Big Oil doesn't own the sun! that simple
go do your research... it's there for everyone who gives a damn to find.. google is your friend...
if you are too lazy, go watch Attenborough Presents..
btw, if i had a wife, i'd love children too.. but do think about this.. what have your children to look forward to?
Ok, let's start from the very basic. Your thinking ofOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:If you heard of this Chinese phrase "bu jian guan cai bu diao lei"
You will know why solar power never really took off.
And how much research have you done to say so?
Don't just write, you need to produce evidence showing so.

So the solution is to BAN Blah Blah Blah who explain why Solar Power never took off and find another professor to explain why solar power is about to take off.
Btw, I do quite a lot of research on Solar Power. The motivation is not just about replacing petrol etc. You got it totally wrong. Very wrong indeed.
