Young Miss Wee did something naughty on the net recently. In return, she received the ultimate flame any netizen had yet experienced. With the exception of few guys who were convicted for posting racism remarks on the net, Miss Wee is perhaps the only blogger in Singapore's history that had to shut down her own blog and apologise in another person's because of an entry.
While Miss Wee's remarks were insensitive and rude beyond doubts, the net was and would never be deprived of bloggers or forumites who enjoy indulging themselves in such languages. What essentially made the public react so strongly was perhaps because she was born who she is, not just as a Wee, but a daughter of THE Wee, MP of Ang Mo Kio. If she was not born into such family, her views will only invite limited flaming, definitely not to such standard. Are we having double standards here just because she is the daughter of an MP, or more correctly a PAP MP? Is the public only reacting because of her lack of sympanty and sensitivity? Or is there a psychological element of "She's related to the PAP, LETS DIG HER IN!!!!".
It is in my view that while her father may not demostrate the best quality of a potential statesman, any partisan feelings should not spill over into their family. Let's just treat Miss Wee for who she is, an 18 years old teenager ranting on the net. -

We all forgive her for being 18 and haven't experience life to the fullest yet. But the comments of her dad in the straits times that day, brought the issue up another level. That one, is IMHO, unforgiveable.

i admit i feel her blog has received too much attention, but the limelight was actually always on her father and her upbringing, rather than the girl herself. now her father has to make it worst with his sarcastic apology.
it really shows what kind of political "education" she has been given throughout her life, one that has intolerance rather than understanding others.
i just hope other children and youths don't become like that.

Well an 18 years old Singaporean boy is old enough to serve NS and to kill someone when called upon, I can't see why an 18 year old girl who has an uncaring big fat *mouth* should not face the consequence of her actions.
Tell me, if 18 years old is still to naive... then why the hell are 18 years old boy who did something silly in NS get punished like anyone else.... oh I forgot, elitist girls (and mummy's boys) are too young to face the world yet. They live in a sheltered life, silver spoon fed. Please lah, all these people, get out of our faces (pun intended) !!!!

Personally, I don't see why she should be let off lightly. It gives those with status in our society a bad image. And also it portrays our society to be rotten. If you disagree on having her imprisoned...fine...punish her and make her do 500hrs of Community Involvement Programme or so at some Old Folk's Home to let her open her eyes and see how do the middle and lower class Singaporeans live. That should open up her thoughts. Because I don't see the reason why do people with high-profile status always get away with things.

Being a productive tax paying member of the Republic of Singapore, it is unlikely that any of the definitions are relevant despite Wee Shu Min's heinous allegations.
Verdict: Not guilty.
Wee Shu Min:-
Non productive member of society who doesn't contribute to tax revenues. Off spring of a reasonably affluent politician who has been granted a scholarship at tax payers' expense. Obviously, these tax revenues should have been put to better use by funding a more intelligent, less emotionally retarded person who otherwise would not have the necessary resources to finance their tertiary education and would more likely contribute back to society instead of engaging in mindless rantings and diatribes.
Verdict: Guilty of being a leech on 3 counts.

Back bencher MP who rode into parliament via the coat tails of the incumbent PM through the flawed GRC system. Like all other PAP MPs who sailed into office without having to contest in any election, he is of course drawing a huge salary (by world standards) despite having to contribute nothing. As yet, he is still unknown for any significant contributions to society. Best known for publicly defending the bigoted views of his own daughter while likely being the party guilty of inculcating such values privately.
Verdict: Guilty of being a leech on 2 counts.
