Well, the first question I would ask is: are we Americans? If not, what is our reason for supporting the motto? Should we not be supporting "Majulah Singapura" instead and creating a progressive nation?

America is a country founded on the tradition of Christian-Judeo beliefs, and its founding fathers (mostly Puritans) were deeply religious men who fled from European's persecutions for a better way of life. The motto "In God We Trust" is simply a remembrance of the birth of America and her struggle during a chaotic and precarious period to become independent from England's oppressive colonization. The deep religious convictions fueled and motivated the founding fathers to continue their revolutionary struggle against overwhelming odds and ultimately led to national independence.
