the 78,777.047 votes already tabulated –
will reach an estimated 83,000,000 or 40.4
percent of the eligible electorate, higher than the
39.7 percent who voted in 2002. Despite the modest turnout
increase and, if the CenterÂ’s estimate proves correct,
the 2006 turnout percentage will be the
highest mid-term turnout
since 1982 when 42.1 percent of eligible Americans voted.

Well, the other 60 per cent choose not to vote. That is democracy - of which a major facet is the 'freedom of choice'.

If you are living in the outskirts of the city, would you want to travel a few hundred miles to go to your nearest voting booth and drop a piece of paper? -
that's right, exercising your democratic rights means u can choose to vote or not. those whose chose not to vote will have to live with what's to be decided going forward.
btw, i was there and i can tell u many of whom i know and spoke with do not care so much about the campaigns happening in the senate or hse of rep. there are more concerns about the propositions in their local area tt affects them directly.
also, this is not really the `main election' per sey. it's the half time election as some puts it.
and unlike spore, where it can change the rule of the election game to suits its whim and fancies, there, everything is well estd. the processes and voting system is pretty much cast in stone. prez bush tries to pull some nonsense like lowering fuel prices to record low and the sentencing of s.hussein, but he can't do much more.
btw, the campaigning is also very dirty, the ads shown on telly are all throwing slimes at the opponents.
