Obviously, you are young and naive. PAP fairs no better in disregarding oppositions. So you think they don't "shoot" too? On one hand they say Singapore needs credible oppositions, but when credible oppositions appear, guess what have they done? Either trying all sorts of dirty handed way to discredit the oppositions or even threaten them with lawsuits and jails... how many credible oppositions have left Singapore because of that?
If you have absolute power in Singapore, you can do anything and say anything with no repercussion. I think you have to take a look at Singapore from 1959 till now and understand how PAP got into power and maneuver to grap absolute power. It reminds me of the Roman empire time. We see a Caesar and the so call Senate running Rome (or in this case Singapore). -
Voting the opposition in also wun improve our lives what. They aren't tat fully mature and credible as yet...esp S**.
Voting for the current govt end up causing us to suffer from increased GST. -
This is really something ongoing...I dunno...So far in terms of a plan, from the opposition that is, the workers party have a credible plan in how to run the country...followed closely by the SDA....SDP so far honestly speaking, have a bunch of reps that speak bullcrap..and all they do is slam the government without restraint...but no plan is being churned out....
If we currently are gonna follow this PAP leadership my opinion is that
1) We'll be more "poor" than ever...
2) CPF money will be wasted
3) Workers jobs will be more and more likely be taken up by FT
4) And the babies who are born this period would have lots of problems...
It really is time for us to wake up. I feel both sides are lacking...
PAP politicians are really more and more looking to be resting on their laurels of previous victories...and that was 1965 to 1998.
But it really is making us singaporeans look like fools....
Yet honestly, I have to ask this question to the opposition...
What plan do you have that can tackle and equal that of PAP's plans...if not better them?
Besides our domestic problems...
What of defence?
what of finance?
What of transport...
economy?
I really feel that when we offer a plan to singaporeans we should be all arounded....and not focussed on just one thing...
This i feel is PAP's winning point...
If the opposition is gonna succeed in getting into the political system, they need to create a masterplan...and a convincing one to the singaporeans... -

your impression of the opposition, like many others, is concieved through the reportings by our media. just by this election alone, even a fool would be able to tell that the media is biased towards the rulling party.

The government would not allow any reports criticising their system and policy. Websites have also been block for the same reason. In actual fact, the internet that we are surfing nowadays are just giving us the information that the government want us to receive.

There is a big mis conception that SDP has no policies. What SDP is fighting for is not bread and butter issues like those of WP's and SDA's.
SDP is fighting for more fundamental issues like the constitution, fair elections, the makeup of the govt bodies, etc. They are just as important as the bread-and-butter issues. These are the issues MM Lee deemed NO-GO zone for many years. Any oppositions who touch these issues are gonna get really hammered by PAP and its machinery from the govt-bias judges to the mata who called themselves "non law enforcement" policemen. The citizen of Singapore are too blinded by the mass "brainwashing" in our education system. Why do you think PAP consistently instill fear among us, citing racial issues to terrorism, using ISD as a weapon to detain any political activities or oppositions. Look at JBJ, Francis Seow, Tang Liang Hong for example. These are bright lawyers who dared the PAP to debate on the national constitution, human rights and freedom in Singapore that got themselves in PAP's cross hair.
SDP has not real agenda... just ranting for nothing.... I think NOT!
In fact, we need all the opposition parties to work together to bring the political field to the next level... to challenge PAP in all front, from bread and butter issues, to foreign affairs and relationship issues, to national constitution and justices system. Then Singapore can progress from a 1 party authoritarian rule to a more democratic society.

I think it doesn't really matter even if the opposition parties do not have any concrete plans or solutions. At least they showed that they are still in-touch with the ground level and know what are the issues that are bothering the Singaporean commoner. Unlike the PAP MPs who seem to be living on Mars and do not know what's happening on Planet Earth.
Like the recent US elections. Even if you cannot get Bush out right now, at least you can put in the Democrats to check and balance his policies. Similarly, we do need a sizeable number of opposition to at least voice out against issues such as the FT policies, GST hikes etc.
I didn't get to vote at all my entire life because my district's always a walkover. Hopefully, there'll be enough opposition to contest my district next elections. -

Just pick any common people on the steets on Hong Kong, Taiwan or Korea....you'll find the people there are more talented, agile and realistic. These were due to its educational system and environment.
Just look at Thailand moive or singing performance industry......they are way ahead of us many many times.
