Annual salaries of heads of government:
1. Singapore Prime Minister US$1,100,000 (S$1,958,000) a year
2. United States of America President: US$200,000
3. United Kingdom Prime Minister: US$170,556
4. Australia Prime Minister: US$137,060

This might have been repeated before.
But why is the PM earning much more than the US President when the latter has terrorism, war and a much larger and more complex national issues at stake?
Why is the leader of a small but important Southeast Asian country earning more than the leader of arguably the most powerful country in the world? Are HongKong's leaders earning more ? Is South Korea's leader earning more? I think not.

Let's assume that the PM spent half of his salary a year, he will be a millionaire in two years time. If a average minister also spent half of his salary per year, he will be a millionaire in three years. Besides, we must know that PM is also the current Finance Minister, so he is drawing about USD 2 million (rounded up) per year. Don't forget that various minister is holding directorship of some companies as well, do you really think that they are holding these directorship for free?
The leader of a country with 4++ million people hold a salary five times of a leader of a country with 300+ million. Then some Singaporean minister said that some qualities, of those who commit themselves to public service, could not be bought using money. Compare this statement with PM Lee's statement of why they are drawing such a high pay, (so that they won't be corrupted) if they have the intention of serving the citizen, shouldn't they have the invaluable quality of incorruptable too? If they are incorruptable, why should they draw such a high pay? -

Lets not bring police seargeants and school teachers...cos even if they are well payed..brader..(or is it sister?) Then again, when you bring compare to the US and all the singaporean ministers, it really puzzles why ministers are earning that sort of income...but trust me i agree with you that income has to be proportional to responsibility...
But really common sense would say that the US pres. would really deserve...(as much as i dun like BUSH) a higher income...

On one hand...they said wah....we have to sarcrifice serving the country. On the other....they drawing tonnes of money!!!
So...what's the difference of being greedy?

If the top brass of the gov all cut 15 to 20% of their monthly salary.
We may have sufficient angel fund to help the poor and needy, so why need to 2% GST ha

We all are singaporeans, we all need to work for a better singapore, but why can't our leaders take the lead by giving to the poor?
