No wonder Friedman has won the admiration of so many people around the world because he had accurately pin-pointed the problems that will be caused to society should the government ride freely over the people.

The following famous quotations from him will be long remembered by the Singaporeans as they have suffered precisely the same consequenes of over-government as Friedman has predicted in his time e.g.

"Governments never learn. Only people learn," Friedman once remarked. "I am in favour of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it's possible."

Among his other notable phrases was "The power to do good is also the power to do harm".

Who is he ar? Then if what he say really comes true. then very high chances that singapore become a dependent nation on the govermant liao mar...

Yes, Milton Friedman certainly said that "there is no free lunch..." as much as he also said that the government should tax less, and not interfere with free market forces.

If the government decides to manipulate with market forces and suck in all the resouces from the citizens, should it not be the responsiblity of the government to provide "free lunchs" to the citizens whom they have impoverished ?

As much as the Communist Government of the People's Republic of China has imposed its will and tax its workers, it has at least bailed them out in times of economic hardship with social welfare - recognising it as the responsiblity of the Communist Government.

While our Singapore Government adopts all communistic poliicies and methods to monopolise the politics in Singapore, at the same time it will unashamedly deny Singaporeans the parallel welfarism extended by those Marxist communist doctrines.
