I really dun think the increase in GST will really be able to help the poor...What about those who are in the lower-middle income groups then?
But from the day the GST was first introduced in 1994...the govt was already moving from direct to indirect taxation...
Most Singaporeans will become poorer for it...What more at this time the govt says civil servants can get 2.2 months bonuses...the only persons who will benefit will be the rich, elite and civil servants then... -

Yes, I agree with the original thread. Somehow because of NKF, I have lost all faith in "charity" organisation. It use to be that the tin cans only come out once every other Sat. Now it is everyday and a few charity groups at the same time, and I have not even heard of half of the charities the poor kids are collecting for! They really had us fooled with their big budget shows, sob story letters (with our name on Dear so and so even). They made us feel they are sincere. Well obviously he was not paid peanuts for it
.
But what amazes me is that the directors of NKF had so much time to liquidate their assets and actually RUN away. I mean was Richard Yong in disguise and using a fake passport! Shouldn't their properties be seized and held by the court since they were guilty of corruption and should be prosecuted.
The police should know they are a flight risk but the NKF pple can move and operate freely!
I feel that this matter was handled very poorly. The government should appease the people i.e. voters by acting swiftly and firmly thus we will feel that they have acted in an unbiased way against such perpetrators who have abused our trust and money for more than 20 years! -

Our Natural deep sea port and SG is situated in the best location where all Vessels will have passby...whether the vessels are going to East or West.
This port had generated tonnes of money!!!!! Without the GOD gift of the port....Sg would not be what it is today....even with 10 LKY!!!!

We should learn from Government having this thinking of WEI YU CHO MO. Many ppl dun even have much saving for old age liao. Better save up for more GST hike rather on donation.Inflation cycle is getting shorter and life span is getting longer, medical care fee is increasing. So if u dun save up who will help u if yr living standard is average and above?

SINGAPORE : Former NKF board member Matilda Chua has been found guilty of falsifying company accounts.
This was in relation to her association with GNR, a call centre company she and ex-NKF chief T T Durai set up in 2000.
Her sentence for falsifying the accounts will be meted out on Friday. Chua could be sentenced to up to seven years in jail.
The 38-year-old has been cleared by District Judge Francis Tseng of any role in a share-rigging scam. - CNA /ls

SINGAPORE: Former NKF board member Matilda Chua has been fined $10,000 for falsifying company accounts.
This is in relation to her association with GNR, a call centre company she and ex-NKF chief T T Durai set up in 2000.
Tears of relief flowed when sentence was meted out and Chua was spared the jail term on Friday.
A visibly relieved Chua later walked out of the Subordinate Courts with her family.
For falsifying the accounts, Chua could have been jailed for up to seven years.
In mitigation, her lawyer had said Chua's case was a unique one.
Her lawyer argued that unlike other cheating cases where the culprits repeatedly falsify accounts and squander the gains, Chua only made the mistake once.
Besides, Chua did not make any tangible gain from the transaction.
However, the judge said Chua did falsify the accounts, although this did not cause any market disruption or harm the interests of the public. Hence, a lighter sentence was meted out. - CNA/ir -

Reputation is precious. She squandered hers on Durai. What's worse is she squandered her husband's in the process. -

reason is very simple, where do the CEOs get the salaries?
