Long long time ago, he said, people must study Law and Medicine. People did and there is a sudden upsurge of ppl with such degrees. Ended up there is an oversupply, Lawyers ended up not practising but consulting. Doctors open up practices and struggling to make ends meet.
Then he said people have to invest in Shenzhen SEZ. All the hype was there and again, SG govt discontinued support and many ppl find themselves trapped with the investment they did in SEZ.
Then he say, people must study hi-tech and engineering fields. Now many of them end up with jobs they do not really want.
Then he say, must invest in the Riau Economic triangle. Only few succeed, the rest was caught in the red tape.
Then people must study Bio-engineering field... this is still an ongoing trend..
Now he says ppl must invest in Middle East....
Why can't he just let singaporeans have their own brains and do whatever they feel like? -
wasn't he who said that Iran might trigger a nuclear arms race in middle east? Is it really a good time to invest in the middle east now with the iraq still deep in violence and iran on the other side might go fully nuclear?

You should be happy that he's not like Dr. Mahathir, wonder if he would be like Mahathir one day and criticize his successor.

Maybe he wants Singaporean to be poor and then they will stay in Singapore?
If too many people make it, they will emigrate from Singapore. So, after I got a diploma in hi-tech and engineering field, I decided not to listen to them anymore and follow my heart. Now, I'm pursuing a degree in Chinese Language, despite I have no intention to be a teacher and don't know what's in store for my future. -
So to all you people who think they will get a job at the casinoes next time.
Think again. -
The Middle East has always been a political hotbed, it has been in the past, it is right now and it will be in the future.

Most likely those jobs will go to our cheap FT from China, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Thailand, etc. Which we are so ill equipped to compete against with our living cost structure.

He didn't say doesn't mean he is not going to say. The longer he stays, the likelihood is greater. Look at Dr. Mahathir.
I always think that in whatever you do, it's good to quit while you are still at the top, at least it leaves good memories and thoughts about you. That's why people like Michael Schumacher quit F1, while he is still at the top.
If you end up like Dr. Mahathir, you will end up in infamy in history. -

I dont think you can even compare what Mahathair is doing now with LKY.
I watched an interview today and he is really so old already yet he is chionging around Mid-East doing this and that. I wonder he is really so old why need to do this. His son is already the PM and he got so much money he can retire and relac but he still so pia for SG.
Even though I don't really agree wif the Govt policy, I think he still very deserving of respect.
SG will be much poorer off without him.
Even Msia has a much stronger political leadership without Mahathair. Wonder if you can say the same for SG
