Anyway, he is working hard not only for Singaporeans lah, he is working to stabilize the seat for his son, else the son won't be in office for too long.Originally posted by jianfish9:If you think that he is just flying around and enjoying life at Taxpayers expense, I really think that you are misguided here.
Hello, he is so rich that he cannot even spend away all his money before he passes away.
I think he is using his reputation and leverage as an world-renowed statesman to help Sg.
Seriously, other than Mid-east, where else can we invest? Western countries are saturated and too many tariffs. Everyone is rushing into China. Only place is Mid-east where although is so messy we are sort of neutral party there.
Anyway, if you think I am very pro-govt, I can assure you I am not. But for what MM Lee has done and is doing, I is really respect him. If you see his interview, its like your grandfather who is really old, like 83yo but still working hard for your family. Of coz he got make mistake but he is not God. Sg newspaper is biased, so read everything wif a pinch of salt. I know coz I read many newspaper from many other countries.
"If we say that we believe in democracy, if we say that the fabric of a democratic society is one which allows for the free play of idea...then, in the name of all the gods, give that free play a chance to work within the constitutional framework."
- Opposition leader Lee Kuan Yew, 1st Legislative Assembly, Oct 4, 1956
"Whereas it is the inalienable right of a people to be free and independent, I ... declare on behalf of the people and the government of Singapore that Â… [we] shall be forever a sovereign, democratic and independent nation, founded upon the principles of liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of her people in a more just and equal society."

"Mine is a very matter-of-fact approach to the problem. If you can select a population and they're educated and they're properly brought up, then you don't have to use too much of the stick because they would already have been trained. It's like with dogs. You train it in a proper way from small. It will know that it's got to leave, go outside to pee and to defecate. No, we are not that kind of society. We had to train adult dogs who even today deliberately urinate in the lifts."
- Lee Kuan Yew on Singapore society, The Man & His Ideas, 1997
"We have a different culture, a different way of doing things. The individual is not the building block."

Coz deep down He knows that sg wun be the same without Him... I believe He still can't find his Perfect successor yetOriginally posted by jianfish9:I dont think you can even compare what Mahathair is doing now with LKY.
I watched an interview today and he is really so old already yet he is chionging around Mid-East doing this and that. I wonder he is really so old why need to do this. His son is already the PM and he got so much money he can retire and relac but he still so pia for SG.
Even though I don't really agree wif the Govt policy, I think he still very deserving of respect.
SG will be much poorer off without him.
Even Msia has a much stronger political leadership without Mahathair. Wonder if you can say the same for SG
