This is a game to play....if local GLC were to come into casinos..Do you think that the foreign company will put in all their effort to run the business? Or do you think that some neigbour will lure the Casinos investors and set up to compete against Sinkapore's Casinos?Originally posted by dragg:in the end, not a single local firm got a share of the pie.![]()
The award of casinos to Genting was due to some political reasons which are beyond our knowledge or ''a secret''.Originally posted by sgbet:Lots of people were expecting 8th Wonder to clinch the bid. Now that Genting has won, will it affect Genting Highland's business? Think Genting share in Malaysia will drop like a bomb on Monday.![]()
Precisely, RIET!!!Originally posted by sgbet:The development cost 5.2 billion Singapore dollar (US$3.38 billion; euro2.54 billion) casino-resort on Singapore's Sentosa Island will be one-third funded by equity, and two-third funded by loans.
This is using other people's money to make money.

Too much is at stake for the two IRs to fail. For their own sake, the govt will do whatever it can to make the projects a success. For one, the casino floor area limits will definitely be reviewed, and two, the entry fee of $100 for locals could be reduced or waived. If both fails, then there is a Temasek to takeover the business.Originally posted by Lowclassman:Precisely, RIET!!!
Using public $$$..........to fund the projects. That's why we are seeing so many craps warrants in SGX now.
I'm worry that the balloon will brust in not time.![]()

Certainly, the sg govt would do whatsoever to complete the project....in the event of ''what...if''......But, investors maybe like me or you...? or other people's investments...? How much would the make up for our loss....would it be the same senario as CAO case.... in term of making up for private investors?Originally posted by sgbet:Too much is at stake for the two IRs to fail. I bet to differ, I think Genting win becauseOriginally posted by Lowclassman:The award of casinos to Genting was due to some political reasons which are beyond our knowledge or ''a secret''.
Whether how good Genting had presented is not that crucial (More crucial...Is how sg govt going to tickle the Malaysian ruling party's balls).....I've seen all the designs of competitors, they have their long and short.
Your points are not surprise or new to me........I have already taken all your points into consideration before.Originally posted by Gazelle:I bet to differ, I think Genting win because
1) They read the RFP better than other 2 bidders by offering the best family entertainment IR
2) Genting business model compliment well with Marina Sands IR, and it is in LV Sands' interest that Genting win. Have you forgotten about LKY's visit to LV and his meeting with Sheldon Adelson before the annoucement?
3) The reason Singapore government call it an IR and not casino is because they want to copy the LV Venetian concept whereby the operator is able to generate 70% of their revenue from non-gaming activities. Among the 3 bidders, Genting's proposal is the best in terms of its ability to run a profitable gated theme park.
4) Ever since the death of Butch Kerzner and Sol Kerzner going for a bypass operation. There has been many question on Kerzner future and its ability to pull this through.
5) 8th Wonder's proposal doesnt not fit the bill to become a family theme park unless we are all millionaire
6) Genting's 30 years license with Universal Studio for this region is a trump card
7) Singapore biggest handicap in tourism is the lack of a major theme park for kids. Among the 3 bidders, U.S. is the perfect fit for Singapore overall strategy in boosting tourism income.Singapore government is aware of the South JB passport free zone, and suppose if Genting lost, they will definitely lobby MY government to allow them to build a IR in JB, and this will have a major impact on the profitability of Singapore IRs
If no speculation......there will be no future!!!Originally posted by Gazelle:what is the point of speculating on things which you cant proof it?

Not surprise.Originally posted by norm:Will they turn the Casino IR into a REIT?
I am not sure which newspaper you are reading, from what I knowOriginally posted by Lowclassman:Two months after Genting Int got awarded the Sentosa IR licence to operate a casino, they already breach the terms of the award by inviting Macau triad linked Stanley Ho to take a stake in Genting Int.
I've always advocated that the Lims who own Genting are very tricky people and that their Universal Studio Theme Park will not succeed in our kind of humid & hot climate. However our MIWs who are paid annually by the $millions think differently and now they are querying Genting's illegitimate move.
At the worst case scenario, if they take back the IR licence from Genting for allowing Stanley Ho to come in by the backdoor; don't they look real freaking stupid?
I suspect that Genting Int is having second thought about the viability of the Sentosa IR project and that's why they are trying to court Stanley Ho's participation.
Knowing the Lim family they will not give away a good thing.
Good luck to Genting Sentosa IR project.

Uncles and aunties are very smart. They will shun the IR. Why go IR when they already have privileged gambling status on the cruise ships?Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:I cant wait to see uncles and aunties lose their pants off.
