As long as that US interest rate does not rise, the bond market will remain bearishOriginally posted by miserable:Hmm.....It has its pros and cons. Weak USD can bring oversea monies into the country as form of investment thus creating jobs. It also helps to readjust global imbalances, making US produced goods more affordable.
However US as the major consumer market can cause an adverse effect on the countries who trade with them including Singapore in turn, slow down their economic growth. A depreciating USD also can exacerbate inflation fears, leading to higher interest rate, this in turn would weight on the stock market and it would also elevate recession risks.
Dude, I believe you got it wrong. Higher rate means higher bond yield thus bearish bond, stronger USD and vice versa. CheersOriginally posted by oxford mushroom:As long as that US interest rate does not rise, the bond market will remain bearish![]()

Mr Gazelle, I am confused, you are contradicting yourself.Originally posted by Gazelle:main reason for the recent devaluing of dollar is because most Asian countries are selling their USD reserve and convert them to other currency. There are also fear that the housing market in USA will collapse this year and bring about recession.
Singapore and other Asia countries whos economy is heavily dependent on US export will not allow the USD to drop too drastically as this will mean we will lose of competitive edge.
If you cant even answer your own question, I would advice you to stay away from forex trading.
You are talking to a simpleton who makes alot of noise and has no knowledge whatsoever. Why bother explaining to him? He doesn't even understand discounts.Originally posted by miserable:Dude, I believe you got it wrong. Higher rate means higher bond yield thus bearish bond, stronger USD and vice versa. Cheers![]()

USD/SGD weaken to 1.5350 as part of the reasons is influx of foreign funds into Singapore. If you noticed the strength of our stock market and good buying interest in the high end properties.
USD/JPY actually strengthen to 119.20 as part of the reasons are the recent US economic number (Non Payrolls report) and weakness in crude oil price hinted FED is not likely to ease rate soon. The BOJ did not help the JPY when they did not hike the Japanese interest rate which the market expected.
Mr Taiwanpolitics, I do agree with Mr Gazelle that you should stay away from forex trading for the moment. Hope no offence to you,I feel you need to get your basic fundemental and technical knowledge before plunging into the market. After obtaining these knowledge, you try "paper trading" before really move into the market. Ask your broker or dealer to assist you and get yourself some books on trading. Cheers![]()

Same here, wasn't looking at his post, but saw "miserable" posting with quote, then discovered who was the idiot making stupid financial economic blunder. Used to rebutt him last time, but found out he doesn't do much but cut and paste from websites. Most of the time he just ignores your rebuttal, because he can't rebutt.Originally posted by foomwee88:U r rite!!!

The influx of foreign fund might be one factor, but the more significant one is that the world major economy is lossing faith in USD reserve and countries such as Iran and China are already selling their USD reserve and converting them to Euro etc.Originally posted by miserable:Mr Gazelle, I am confused, you are contradicting yourself.

Simpletons don't know that they are slapping themselves in the face.
1) Recent devaluation of USD as a result Asian countries are selling off USD
2) Devaluation of USD will affect export dependant Asian countries.
This must be the "poison pill" strategy concocted by "brainiacs" such as Gazelle.
sg is not so much of an export country... no worries...Originally posted by Gazelle:http://www.freemarketnews.com/Analysis/134/6593/high.asp?wid=134&nid=6593
Yes a strong S$ will make our goods to US less competitive.
