It's only acting, much like watching your actors and actresses on MediaCorp, all ficticious.Originally posted by Chia Ti Lik:The interesting thing about SM Goh is that sometimes you question whether he is for the opposition or against the opposition.
During the election he offered voters in the two opposition wards to allow the PAP candidates there upon elected to function as the opposition - this of course was later retracted.
TodayÂ’s newspapers has SM Goh saying that the PAP now wants to act like the opposition.
They say that “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
This is a feather in the cap for many in the opposition camp.

Agree with you 100%, there is a conflict of interest between their jobs and their service to the people.Originally posted by the Bear:actually, i want to see the MPs all have to quit their other jobs and be full-time MPs... just like the opposition MPs
Should Goh form a splinter group after the old man's passing, I believe he might gain a lot of support.Originally posted by BillyBong:Unlike Lee Senior, who had the luxury to choose the appropriate time to step down, did Goh Chok Tong ever have a choice?
With age catching up on Lee junior, it would have been a clear message to step aside and allow the son to take over the reins in an orderly and 'gracious' fashion.
Goh Chok Tong did indeed preside over a more gracious society and perhaps for the first time, people felt closer to the govt and their ministers. How else can one explain the overwhelming mandate for the ruling party during is 2nd elections?
My image of him is one of a gentleman who waved away the barbaric and uncouth goading of one Chee Soon Juan during the elections. The subsequent lawsuit against him was probably unnecessary; the image of Chee was practically tarnished completely after that incident and Goh's, uplifted.
Many will draw conclusions that Goh's recent retracted comments about lifting the party whip at the last elections was sparked by big brother demanding that he toe the line.
His subsequent potshots at Chiam See Tong (calling him old etc) smacked of desperation after being arrowed by Lee junior as the point man to win back Potong Pasir and Hougang.

If he comes to the GRC I'm living in and asking for vote as an opposition party member (no matter new or old), I might give him my vote.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Should Goh form a splinter group after the old man's passing, I believe he might gain a lot of support.
If they have a choice between 2 investments on a plot of land:Originally posted by ProGovt:It is all about managing your time effectively. If there are no conflict of interest, why do we insist that MP must be full time?
As long as they can fulfill their obligations, they should be allow to have their own lives, their regular work or their own business. We are paying them to do the work of a MP, not buying their life and soul. We don't pay them enough.
And in case you might want to refute that they are overpaid. Please note that MP do not earn millions, only some cabinet Ministers; and Ministers are full time civil servants.
Maybe next time in the near future, there will be a splinter group from the party made up of some MPs who don't see eye to eye with the main group.Originally posted by toll123:Anyone still remembers that during the 2001 general election GCt did mentioned that he wanted to set up something like 'People's Action Forum' in which 20+ PAP members will act as if they are opposition members and no whip will be imposed on them but later the idea was scrapped due to fears that it might split PAP?
