The ministers might be earning as you say, less than 100k. But have you stop to think that they have a mountain of business at the back through the connections and contacts they have in their career as a politician to earn the other big bucks?Originally posted by ProGovt:Unfortunately but true, there is no free lunch in this world. Nothing is for free and no one is so great as to work for less. If that be the case, the world would be swamped with full time volunteers.
If we are not going to pay our ministers good money worth their time, who will be running the show?
Take one of our post-65 MP; Ms Jessica Tan. She is the GM of Microsoft APAC. How much do you think she makes per annum? Someone in the industry would estimate between 400-600K. Do you think it is fair to ask her to give up her work and family time for less than 100K?
Would you work for less?
That's why all those in ruling party tells you stop whining and do something to change the situation.Originally posted by Cindyfeh:I don't know why the ministers are arguing for a pay rise when theirs is already the highest in the world.
In my mind, its... "If you don't like your pay, quit loh! and go get a job that can pay what you desire".
And they say the average singaporean whines. Look who is whining now.
Hai...
I have to remind you that she is working part-time as a MP. And btw, WE are paying for her hip-hop lesson.Originally posted by ProGovt:Take one of our post-65 MP; Ms Jessica Tan. No, they have announced. They announced that the pay hike for civil servants, at the expenses of GST hike, will be used to retain talents for the public sector so that they can serve Singaporeans better and all Singaporeans will have a better life, including the lower income group.Originally posted by ProGovt:The Govt has not announced what package will be available for the lower income after the GST increase and we should be patient. SM Goh has already said that at MINIMUM, it will be equivalent to the amount of additional tax collect.
No wonder Madam Wong Ming Yang committed suicide. The then three week old Lee Yi Peng was blaming her for giving born to him as a mildly autistic albino.Originally posted by ProGovt:If you are poor or ugly, blame your parents; don't blame other kids parents because they plan hard or they have beautiful kids. Oh, btw, I am sorry that this statement (may it be true or fictional) hurts anyone's feeling.Originally posted by Hogzilla:No wonder Madam Wong Ming Yang committed suicide. The then three week old Lee Yi Peng was blaming her for giving born to him as a mildly autistic albino.
Thanks to his "blaming", he had lost his biological mother and to be brought up by a stepmother.
They said, doesn't mean that it's the truth. All MPs are part-time work. That's why the oppositions (WP and SDA) said that their elected candidates will quit their full-time job after they got elected into the Parliament and serve the people full-time.Originally posted by TYING:hey hogzilla!
What you mean part time MP? than how she contribute? I thought they say minister all work 24 hr one?
Hey, you can't say about the poor and ugly like that !Originally posted by ProGovt:If you are poor or ugly, blame your parents; don't blame other kids parents because they plan hard or they have beautiful kids. Plan and be ready for your children and they will have a better chance at succeeding.

I think you are just being superficial. ( And this is my personal opinion.)
it is also the only country where they keep saying that the only way to attract 'capable' people is by paying them higher salaries.Originally posted by 4getmenot:am i wrong to say that s'pore is the only country with this benchmark whereby the gahmen ministers salaries are pegged?

To them, corruption yields more value than what they stand to loose when they do so; and precisely why our Govt needs to pay good money to good people. Firstly to make it worth their time and secondly, so that they stand more to loose with corruption.
Surely, you can now see why our Ministers needs to be paid more. Haven't this system worked well for Singapore for the last 41 years?
I support the govt policies because looking at the bigger picture than oneself, I see the country benefiting more. It is a very fair system and one that only the most brilliant of minds can come out with. MM once said that every country has to find their own path that will befit their own country.
Increasing GST across the board is fair because you pay according to your spending habits. True that the lower income will suffer because they also need to pay GST for basic necessity but this will be offset by all the additional GST collected. And the end of the day, they stand to benefit more than anyone else.
The corporates are happy that taxes are down. The high income earners are happy because they get to keep their hard earned rewards and the lower income are happy because they get more help then ever.
You can't pleased everyone and it is only the small group of whiners that is complaining; and when you get frustrated and angry, the good ones is able to turn this into strength and get themselves out of the situtaion. It encourages fighting spirit and entrepreneurship; it makes the lazy and the incompetent to wake up from their idea and smell the reality.
Even God cannot help those that do not help themselves. So if you're unhappy because you feel that you're at the loosing end; then get off your lazy butt and do something!
I say this is the best strategy ever thought up. 3 cheers to PM Lee!

Hmm.. the swiss ministers pay are not pegged to the top 6% of high earners in the industry? nor i don't see them complaining about their pay? Its all in a person's integrity to whether a person is overcome by greed and corruption. Its sinkapore gahmens self logic that high paying salaries to ministers ensures no corruption exists.Originally posted by ProGovt:The people believed that all those leaders were righteous person when they were elected but they failed the people.
