Ridiculous High Salary May Not Attract Good People

It takes a whole lot more than just moral values to run a country. Can moral values bring investment and jobs to Singaporeans? Not to say that our Ministers do not have it but what this country need is capable people to sacrifice their time to serve this country (most of whom I've met are really down to earth and is probably a better person at any time than most people).Originally posted by Hogzilla:What PAP doing was placing moral values on the same scale with monetary values. As for the above that I've said...I'm sure men with integrity, moral, compassion and high intelligent will understand and accept it.
I don't have to elaborate.
Now, what I could see is....the high ranking officials and the elites are blinded with greed and insatiable appetite of monetary reward. -
This is typical Sporean mentality, everyone should serve you for free!! actually yes... morality will bring about business..
it is good business sense to have moral partners unless you are immoral yourself.. if an immoral person runs a company, i'd want nothing to do with that company because it's here to rip me off blind and then run off..
which is what happened with a lot of FTs.. ripped us off blind and ran off.. just ask the insiders what happened to DBS... -

Never seen them, no experience, don't know can work or not, etc...
But then never give these new people who are non-pap a chance, where/when can there be anyone else who might want to serve the country and help the people but always, always denied the chance because Singaporeans only want to complain but do want to try something new. Yea, the PAP over in Eunos drove everyone crazy - 18 yrs never do anything to improve the estate, then near election, start to paint the place, do the LUP and etc. All just to win some votes. I think the Aljunie area give face - otherwise its freedom kingdom like potong pasir.

The end matters as much as the process of getting there
We might get medals by getting China Players to play for us in table tennis. Yes, we acheive our end of getting a medal. But are we proud of it? Do we feel we have acheived anything? When Ang Peng Siong train hard and win a medal, we are proud of our fellow singaporean because we know the process of getting to that standard is tough and tougher still in Singapore where we do not really support sports persons.
High salary might attract a few good people, but having a meaningful job keeps people. High salary does not avoid corruption but give people more means to creatively use money to cover more eyes. High salary has more often the effect of attracting greedy, dishonest people who are disinterested in the role, but is there just for the cash. This can be seen from the many high profile cases such as Enron. High salary must also demand high performance but yet who had bench mark performance objectively and had any under-performancers been removed or just sitting around shamelessly taking money they do not deserve.
