Ain't you the chinese that couldn't speak a word of chinese, denies being a chinese and looks down on ur own race?Originally posted by iveco:Chinkish blood, Malay blood all can't match up to Euro blood.
Worst of the lot is Arab blood.
Perhaps those politicians up north would do well to remember this.
For cultured Southeast Asians in the past such as the Javanese, the art of wearing the keris was as important as the keris itself.
To unsheath the keris was an affront to society, the keris and the keris-owner. It was an expression of crude, brutish masculinity that bordered on the uncivilised and bestial. Yet tell that today to those demagogues who brandish the keris in public as soon as a camera is pointed at them. By taking the keris out of the sheath and separating it from its feminine counterpart, the sarong, they have rendered the feminine secondary. Here lies the symbolic machismo of the act, and in this singular gesture a feminine object of reverence and beauty has been transformed into a masculine symbol of power, aggression and violence.
My american friend told me those who use derogatory terms such as "Chink" on chinese, or "nigger" on african are racist, and those who look like chinese but use chink on chinese, or any black who call those of african origin 'nigger' are racists of the lowest kind.Originally posted by pinkish purple papayas:Ain't you the chinese that couldn't speak a word of chinese, denies being a chinese and looks down on ur own race?

What you just described is called reverse-racism, I think. These types are indeed the lowest of the low.Originally posted by sgdiehard:My american friend told me those who use derogatory terms such as "Chink" on chinese, or "nigger" on african are racist, and those who look like chinese but use chink on chinese, or any black who call those of african origin 'nigger' are racists of the lowest kind.![]()

dude, "races" are the abstractions lah.Originally posted by sgdiehard:civilization is an abstraction?![]()
correct.Originally posted by blueheeler:strictly speaking, 'race' refers to genetic affiliations, and does not specifically assume cultural linkages. in a s'pore/m'sia where many people have some 'mixed blood' in them, 'race' is no longer an accurate term to be used; more appropriate is 'ethnicity', a term that talks about which cultural group one identifies with (and that recognises this individual as part of them as well).
Hence, it is good to have mixed lineage, as it allows you to identify with either side of the family.Originally posted by blueheeler:strictly speaking, 'race' refers to genetic affiliations, and does not specifically assume cultural linkages. in a s'pore/m'sia where many people have some 'mixed blood' in them, 'race' is no longer an accurate term to be used; more appropriate is 'ethnicity', a term that talks about which cultural group one identifies with (and that recognises this individual as part of them as well).
race, with genetic affiliation and clear physical traits such as hair, eyes, colour skin, is less abstract then ethnicity with same lineage, ancestry... or cultural linkages. The point is, differences among the general human race exist, it is important that the differences are recognised and respected with equality.Originally posted by LazerLordz:dude, "races" are the abstractions lah.
