The Government is inviting members of the public to SMS their feedback

What do you wish to see in the 2007 Budget? Here's your chance to "speak up" and give feedback on what you want to be included in it - by simply sending an SMS on your mobile phone to 9 SpeakUp (97732587) from tomorrow to Jan 15.
This is another initiative under REACH, or Reaching Everyone for Active Citizenry @ Home (www.reach.gov.sg), which was set up in October 2006 as part of the restructuring plans for the Feedback Unit to move beyond gathering public feedback, and to become the lead agency for engaging and connecting with citizens.
The new unit signifies its renewed commitment to develop and promote an active citizenry through citizen participation and involvement, said a statement from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts today.
To guide the public in giving their views for Budget 2007, they can respond to the general questions listed below:
What do you hope to see in the 2007 Budget Statement?
What do you hope would be included in the GST off-set package?
How do you think the Workfare payment should be distributed? For example, what percentage should be in cash and what percentage should go into CPF?
How do you think the Government should alleviate the impact of the GST increase on the lower-income, on the middle-income?
What is the ONE thing you hope to see in the 2007 Budget Statement?
Users are encouraged to keep to a 160-character limit, including prefixes and spaces in the text of the SMS. They will get an acknowledgement note after the SMS is sent.
Apart from SMS, members of the public can also contribute their views on the 2007 Budget Statement through the following channels:

The SMS 9 SpeakUp number was launched in August this year due to the increasing popularity and convenience of using SMS as an effective channel of communication. The number was put into use for the first time to gather public feedback during the Prime MinisterÂ’s National Day Rally Speech on Aug 20.

Useless to say anything, whatever you say will be thrown in the rubbish bin, they will still implement what they want. We might as well talk to the wall, at least you get the satisfaction of listening to your echo.

You can give them some feedback. If you Ah Q'ly believed that they will listen to your suggestion, I think you might be in shock. We have seen too many case of how they, selectively, listen to what the people said.
The most famous example, Integrated Resort (IR). They said it open for suggestion, we leashed online petition, columns to newspaper, the only thing we didn't do was holding a demostration, an action that was deemed illegal by our "smart" Gahmen.
So what are the consequences of writing to the forum? Another famous example, Mr. Brown. He shared what he had to said about the s-called progress package and thanks to MICA (I think it is, if wrong, someone please correct me), his column was removed. When people wear brown on Sunday at certain MRT station, that chap is virtually telling the police to set their sight on him.
After all this, what's the point of Gahmen telling the people to participate in discussion in Budget 2007? Trying to tell us a joke so that we can laugh? -

This is a classical example of LIAO LUI!!!(waste money).
This reminds me of wad I read on Ya Zhou Zhou Kan magazine, an article claiming China is opening up and starting to practise democracy. Citing that there was a talkshow in which Wen Jia bao was invited to interact with a selected group of blue-collared workers and farmers on national TV. Yes, true enough, he promised reforms and helping the poor. But, LIFE GOES ON............ Mines are still unsafe and collapsing, unfair compensation to farmers' land being claimed,the rich poor gap is still increasing.
Now, now, SG has seem to learn a lot these PR stunts from their Chinese counterparts. -
I think maybe they want to laugh at all the ridiculous suggestions that the public feeds back to them regarding the Budget.

It appears to me that technology has advanced into politics! It sure is a very good way to engage the young and savvy Singaporeans to participate in shaping the nation.
No doubt that the GST increment might have upset most of us. But your say does matter in how the budget gets distributed. Government takes the initial lead and direction to heed, we citizens determined its course.
