The problem with PAP?

i read a comic once.. the hero was given the powers of a god.. where he can see into infinity, through time, and have the ability to change everything and anything to suit his whim and fancy...
he realised he could change humanity, he could change the way people saw things and wipe out all the ills that plagued humanity.. greed, hunger, poverty, bigotry, hatred...
however, he realised something... "I have the powers of god, but I ain't god. I hated people messing with me, and I do not have the right to mess with people."
with that realisation, he gave away the powers of a god...
but within that power, was a trap... those who accepted and took the powers, were doomed to never ever grow, to never ever evolve to a higher state... they were stuck at an evolutionary dead end... while those who denied that power, were given the gift of being able to grow further, to become all that they could...
i would say that to deny ourselves this power to do whatever we want to, is perhaps what humanity is all about?
and to take it to a micro level, it is what is preventing Singapore as a whole from growing.. we are stuck in this rut as everything is decided for us, just like a child who is prevented from growing up mentally, there will be the pressures which will build up.. a resentment.. but when we are let loose, we are not ready for the realities and responsibilities of choices we have to make when we are mature...
this could be the greatest challenge of Singapore..
and for the ruling party, to hold on to power by preventing the maturity of the people, surpressing everything, being "the overseeing father" will only serve to retard the people... for the sake of holding on to power... is it worth the cost? or has Machiavellian principles become the sole philosophy of the powers?
i hope our people grow.. -
There's no problem with PAP.... it's just the people who are voting for them.

I watched 7 samurai, in the village there was this person who was always ready to swing vote, betray, speak loudly of fears and doomsday prophecy and others will blindly follow.
Then there are promised incentives such as upgrading, progress shares, package give outs and etc. I hear my MIL always praise endlessly the current party. She gloated me when the party she voted won and believe there will be more money to take from them (how silly). She obviously do not want to know the truth. I hear from my parents who lived through British rule and also post WWII, during independence and the struggle. The only comment I got was to be very weary of the first family. All my parents felt was the current party and the GLCs, subsidaries they spun off are killing all small businesses and preventing free market and a small way for people to make a living. -

I think you are right, they have now acquired so much power, as opposition, they can be an effective check on the government.
