A constant but low inflation is still important I guess. Furthremore, its not a question on whether we want to have inflaction. This is because inflation usually comes with good economy as you can see from the example I given earlier on.
Japan is suffering deflation for many years which is causing their economy in a bad state.
In the end, nothing is good or bad in this world. Economy good, inflation rise. EConomy good you get good bonus but inflation rise, you pay more.

Somehow our standard of living will not go backwards, so does the ministers pay. Income reduces and job security are still the main Singaporean problem.
The finger pointing towards gahmen cos the control on FT is too lax. Now that they slowly reduce subsidy on FT medical bill, it do affect company on employing more FT, so company start to employ more FT now rather than later. FT will slowly turn away as less benefit they get. -
If you had read the report carefully you will realize that the increase in wages is mainly in the middle income group. The lowest income earners do not see a significant increase in wages due to global competition. the important thing is not how everyone's pay is rising together... if you want a better life... you need to raise your income faster then the next guy... that way ... you get more stuff then him... even if inflation bites in.
The fact is that as long as Singapore remains competitive in what we do, there will be investments and jobs. But we cannot be doing the low value stuff our neoghbours do or we will lose out in a spiral of competition for lower costs. -

But if we do not, we will definitely lose out. The question is whether are we able to lose. If we lose out, will the entire nation suffer? I don't know man. What you guyz think? -
You do not have to 'move' towards globalisation...it is an inevitable fact. Capital can be moved out in a night as the Thai experience shows a few days ago. If your costs are higher, investors will go elsewhere. If you block cheap foreign labour into the country like what they do with construction workers in Japan, the costs of construction will increase. Singapore is too small to be a fortress disconnected from the world. Before the casinos open, low-income earners should consider undergoing training as croupiers. You don't need a University degree but you do need training for that....and there is already a shortage for such people now in Macau. The manpower shortage will only become more severe when our IRs open.

You cannot beat globalisation. However if you cannot beat them , make sure you can join them. Upgrade somehow . Fastest upgrading is doing it laterally - migrate to better pastures if you can .
