What makes you think that Singapore will not survive without him? Hong Kong is a good example, it was a british colony like Singapore, it doesn't have a LKY, it has a more vibrant economy than Singapore.Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:...be a politician.
No matter how well you did or what kind of hard decision made there will always some people who flame at you or don't understand your decision.
In times of turbulence, people supports you and push together with you. When Singapore becomes independant. Someone stands up, lead us and within 40yrs a country has expanded to become one of the powerful nation within asia.
What's next, when everything is peaceful and doing well. When most people gets food, a shelter, good transport system, good judicial system, good infrastruture. People hates you and finds that you are too arrogant. Finds that you are dominating the country and wants a change. Finds that whenever government increase rates is for their own cause without thinking that the end user will still be the people.
What is these? Politics? No man, I'll never touch it.
but you can be a low profile mp and collect $12,000 a month and + additional money from directorshipOriginally posted by NoSuchPerson:...be a politician.

CEO = PM of Singapore Inc.Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:Don't want loh. MP keep gana scolded whenever meet the MP session.
I rather become CEO. At least you control employees.![]()
Just kidding.
I dont think its "Guo He Chai Qiao" There are many cases where leaders who overstay become a burden to their organization. For example, Sony founders failed to make way for new successors. they could not keep up with new technological developments and as a result the company was in red that the old management had to be ousted. This was after many prolonged years of failure because they were a finacially strong companyOriginally posted by NoSuchPerson:Btw, I didn't say we cannot live without him. I just meant he has donesomething for Singapore is a fact and now when everything is fine we start to oust him? Isn't it a bit like Guo He Chai Qiao? Meaning after you cross the bridge, you destroy it?
I don't deny he has done something for Singapore. Not a matter of guo he chai qiao, but a matter of interest, "the interest of Singaporeans".Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:Wah, Kudos to you. You even has the price of the electricity. LoL

I'm not sure where did you get this price but didn't you factor in wages and salary? Adminstrative expenses? The fees for building the electricity infrastructure throughout the Singapore? Engineers fees? Directors fees? etc etc etc.....
I'm not an expert here but please explain?
Btw, where do you get that Return on Equity of Singapore Power? Newspaper or website? I would like to take a look leh.Originally posted by maurizio13:I don't deny he has done something for Singapore. Not a matter of guo he chai qiao, but a matter of interest, "the interest of Singaporeans".
Errmmmmm, the return on equity of Singapore Power is around 33% for the past 3-4 years. Means the profit divide by what is attributable to the shareholders. Don't you think it's a bit excessive?

You calculate from the financial statements in the Singapore Power website.Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:Btw, where do you get that Return on Equity of Singapore Power? Newspaper or website? I would like to take a look leh.
Because if it is 33% then its damn high!

Those turbulent times were a result of him meddling around with policies; were there turbulent times in Hong Kong under the british rule?
In North Korea, everybody gets food, shelter, good transport system, good judicial system, good infrastructure too; Why don't you ask the North Korean and their government?
If you read my post about Singapore Power you will realise that they have overcharge us for our utilities by leaps and bounds.
There is no such thing as a good honest politician these days, other than Ghandi, because of his experiences against racial discrimination, he was fighting for a cause, sad to say, nowadays politicians fight for money and power.
Natural Gas Trade In The Market Without Government Subsidies.
Current Spot Price for Natural Gas NYMEX.
USD 10.77/MMbtu
1 MMbtu = 1,000,000 btu
1 Kwh = 3413 btu
1,000,000 btu / 3413 btu = 292.99 Kwh
USD 10.77 X 1.56 = SGD 16.80
which means SGD 16.80 will produce 292.99 Kwh of electricity. I am not sure what is the process loss (of if there is any) during the conversion from natural gas to electricity, but let's say it's 10%. So we end up with (292 Kwh X 90%) = 263.69 Kwh.
If you divide the cost by the 263.69 Kwh, you get:
6.37 cents/Kwh as compared to 21.64 cents/Kwh for Singapore Power
http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/ngw/ngupdate.asp
We can have a process loss during conversion of up to 50% and still make a hefty profit when we sell at 15 cents/Kwh.
292.99Kwh x 50% = 146.50Kwh
SGD 16.80 / 146.50 Kwh = 11.47 cents/Kwh
if i had the chance i definitely want to be a political. why bother about what others say just look at the bank account will do!Originally posted by NoSuchPerson:...be a politician.
