saying money was a main factor.

Dr Nelson decided to opt for the Super Hornet without a detailed study of alternative aircraft types such as the US air force's F-15 Eagle or the European Typhoon.
No sure about you..... me born here more than 32yrs.... the most income tax i ever paid is $200+....... out of a yearly pay of $25K+.Originally posted by ShutterBug:At least, over there you're taxed heavily for SOMETHING in return.
Here, we're taxed till we die - for NOTHING much in return....
I'd rather pay for something substantial than pay all my life and still have to worry when I'm old and sick.
FARK...!

2.Amazing!No need to go for detail study and spend A$3,000,000,000
or good $3 billions tax payers hard earned money!!
More easy than Sg to spend $3 million.

Well, obviously I'm in a somewhat sensitive position here. I will say that it's a good idea as long as political agendas don't derail the key concept.Originally posted by iveco:Ged, what do you think of the attempt by WA to introduce outcome-based education?

I remember meeting 2 Singaporeans. One who was keen to go back and one who was not. .......
The TS reminds me of the second Singaporean. Or the situation could be worse - The TS has been living in Singapore and never bothered to live elsewhere which means the TS is passing judgements without proof and probably did not realise that there is such as thing as freedom of speech whereby the newspaper can publish anything bad about the government without getting sued.

sometimes then cant pass judgement on Aussie??
I have never been there but i think i still can talk about Aussie.
3.[b]No freedom of speech in Sg?How can Catherine Lim article can be published
in ST and she made this speech in government funded institution??
4.Besides freedom od speech, there are freedoms of
---not to be robbed/killed/molested/raped
---not to be drug addicted----ALMOST half of all Australians aged under 25 have used illicit drugs and view their use as acceptable.

You may think as with all rednecks that your opinion is correct . Yes I nearly got burgled but I had neighbours looking out for me. A snatch thief came and tried to grab my handback and a few guys went after him to catch him . I nearly got mugged but the homeless guy helped me by scaring the kids away. Crime happens everywhere . No country can be free of crime but at least I know if I am in trouble, there is always someone to help me even tho they might not be the police.
Don't talk so much . How about the poor china woman in Singapore who got stabbed a few times by a crazed man. Her stabbing was filmed with a phone while the person filming it was just standing by and doing nothing or even using that same phone to call the police. And better still - that person uploaded it to YouTube. Singapore has crime too but the best part - nobody helped her when it started except for one guy in a blue tshirt who saw her when she was bleeding profusesly came in courageously to help her. You can see all the rest just gawking as though it is one big show.
Freedom of Speech - here the australians can criticise the Australian Government freely. Who ever restricts them from discussing election issues online or offline or in the news during elections? There is no such thing as selected sites to voice your opinions. The australians voice it out loud about what they are not happy about EVERYWHERE during Elections. You have political parties talking about the negatives of other political parties' agenda or policies. I don't hear them getting sued. The media goes wild sometimes but we can evaluate both sides of the story.
When I read Singaporean newspaper - I think sometimes it is all too good to be true. Everyday in Australia you are bound to have some unhappy person publishing their thoughts and view in the news - the more negative the more it gets attention. Yet here in Forums , I hear of some forumers who wrote with poignant remarks to the ST but never got published at all.
And by the way , you don't have students in Australia who tell you to "get out of their elite uncaring face" and daddy who sits on the ivory tower defending her arrogance as well as insensitivity. That is a great way to kill off a political career in Australia.
how much of the 4 grand you spent goes into tax?Originally posted by Gedanken:What's it mean in real terms? In the past week I've spent coming to four grand on Christmas presents, with more to come over the next few days, but I'm not feeling any pinch whatsoever. Hell, about half that amount was paid by the Tax Office when I got my tax returns.

racism exists everywhere. There is bound to be some idiot who doesn't like a person for ethnicity or physical appearance. However there is such a thing as EEO - Equal Employment Opportunity. There are laws governing racism.Originally posted by buses_galore:They also racits towards Singaporeans right?
