Is Australia a Racist Country?

how do you define racism? Is it the off color racist jokes by the majority...(look up Mat and Indian jokes)...how employment can be race biased...(look up "bilingual speaking english and chinese"), ...or the levels of how the KKK would do on the blacks in the old US?
If its like the first scenario, then aussie isn't the only culprit...Singapore also has its fair share...I mean, we have our own issues to settle. Why go put down other people's countries? really, lets solve our own problems first... -
Mmh due to Singapore's strict laws, Singaporeans do practice racism ableit in more "subtle" forms like blogs or ranting. Notice how Banglas seem to be a particular target.
Anyway like it or not, racism can be found in any country, not only Singapore and Australia. -
I will exercise my Freedom of Speech and plus you are not capable of accepting that each country has a positive and negative side. I can easily accept that there is a dark side to Australia but you will just magnify times 10 to justify your own crusade against it. You have a problem with Singaporean migrants - that's your own problem . Don't drag a country through mud just because you cannot qualify to migrate through. -
Yup . Cronulla started off that way by lebanese gangs of youngsters. After the Cronulla incident , you have the Marouba incident where a group of youths with middle eastern appearance started damaging people's property ( cars and houses). Let me tell you what an australian rapist of pakistani said in court (somewhat to the effect) : they ( the girls) were dressed indecently. In my culture , it means that I can have them.
No surprise it angered alot of people with that statement even their own muslims. An australian- nigerian muslim who said the same thing to my colleague. She was dressed in a single top and a long dress.
All these people are a shame to their race and a shame to their religion when they hide behind religion/race as a reason fror their behaviour.
Frankly I think the whites have been too apologetic in their behaviour. I support a move like France to ban all religious symbols (islamic/judaic/christian etc) in school and the Netherlands to ban the burqa.
If they don't like to integrate in Australia, there is always the middle east/africa/Pakistan to return to. -

Well, for one it is interesting to see you demanding an answer from a Singaporean staying in Bangkok. Where I would derive my reply from is probably some newspaper reports. But by doing that I would be making an assumption wouldn't I? Based on past personal experiences, I would say it is low. You don't see any Singaporeans shouting and calling the Banglas name but neither did I witness any Australians hitting out at Asians during my visit there. Our local news reporters are not interested in beaming such news ''live'' from Tan Ah Kow Street. Just because it is not reported in the news doesn't mean we can dismiss it on a whim. The sad truth is, it is happening whether you like it or not.
I suggest that we go out more, interact more and know more about the REAL world instead of the REEL world. My point is racism does exist in every country. Unless Singapore is in itself totally free of racism only then can we have the right to put Australia under the microscope. -

I can only say I get racist remarks in Austria even after paying for the service and by everyone, educated or low-wage employee. But its all hidden under the guise of a sneer or soft comment that we are all wh0res and whatever racist comments you can come up, they've said it.
The other time I get racist treatment in California and by our own Chinese person. They look other visiting tourist as 2nd class and make snide comments about us and how low class we are.
On planes, when there is a white, all asian airlines (except for cathay) treat that white person better than Asian. In stores in Sg, I get treated like a thief. I get ignored by sales girls and I never get any service when I needed. I have walked out of resturaunts because the service staff looked over our heads and decided to only serve white people or people who "look" rich.
So don't blame the Whites for treating us bad.
Our own colored people treat each other like sh!t. -

I feel that whichever is the case, it exist everywhere, not only Australia. While it may be true that there are some racial discrimination in Australia, we as Singaporeans must not deny that some Singaporeans do practise racism. -

Cronulla is a poor example - it is more of the fault of the lebanese gangs which started off the riots not the whites - the whites did wrong when they retaliated in response to the built up resentment of these lebanese minority who have been harassing .
Yes occasionally there is racism but like I said , it comes from the poorly educated trash out there who think asians take their jobs. However Australia is not as bad as you are trying to make it out to be. Discrimination is everywhere even in Singapore.
I got more say in this because I live in Australia for a few years already and you don't . It is not perfect but at least in jobs, they cannot discriminate against any race in terms of employment unless they are cleared by legislation to employ indigenous people or natives who speak a certain language or who practice a certain religion , for a damn good reason. They can't even age-discriminate for any reason at all. -

I lived in Sydney , Melbourne and Canberra before. Melbourne has not much of an issue because of its huge asian population in the city , international students and it is pretty much a well integrated place . The italian (lygon , Carlton) , greek (Greek Precint)and chinese enclaves (China town) are literally side by side without any problems and then you have the central business district. Oh no not a cronulla example again ...anyways my friend's family is asian and living in Cronulla at that time and am still living there - they did not encounter problems during the riots.

Me and my frens went into the shop with bagpacks...
then when we leaving that time right... tio bag check for nothing...
all the other groups of my travelling frens all like that
but they didnt check their own people's bag after some observations...
