PAP's so call meritocracy is compromising Singapore future?

Meritocracy means a social system or society in which people have power because of their abilities, not because of their wealth or social position. Yes Lee Hsien Loong do have certain abilities in getting certain job done, but everyone know he's not the best afterall. The best people are not in the highest place, isn't this compromising Singapore future?

a leader needs to stop and look back often enough to see if there's anyone following...if they are, be sure they are not in chains....

Hey , the best leaders Coerce their followers to follow, and whip them or thread on those who defy them.
So what would you do if you were leader and have to face those who disagree with you when they themselves only want the benefits but are unwilling to contribute to themselves. -
Just out of curiousity, how will we define who is best and who is not? What standards, if there is any, do we use to measure which leader is the best?
Perhaps, sg's richest man is the "best" in making money. So is he the "best" and should be placed in the highest place to lead sg? If yes, how much are we willing to pay him, since he can easily make much much more money by being a businessman?
Well said. History had proven that. The key responsiblity of a leader is to have many loyal supporters. Nope...Meritocracy made sense in the 65 to 80 + years, when we were still a growing nation looking to tap on our limited manpower...
then we had nothing....only people as our resource...but now...
meritocracy seems to be undermining how our society is structured.
Gone are the days where the poor live in slums and villages, where they are homeless and desperate
we are now enjoying the fruit of what meritocracy in the past has brought.
But i don't believe this is the way into the future in singapore. we can modify it, but how is the other question.
just like how India has their caste system, our society has evolved into iour own caste system somewhat. -

Best in making money may not be the best and richest people may not be the best in making money. Look at how they increase the GST, can you say they are not skillful in making money out of the people? I think they are only good at making money from the people of SG.
Because all their overseas investments and ventures are somewhat lacklustre...
They good only on the people they control... not externally.. -

'Quantum questions' are does walkover constitute mandate? Why shouldn't people be allowed to vote in the constituencies not contested at all? What and how are MPs' performance wi respect to efforts made in their respective constituencies assessed? How can 'economy of scale' statistics be compared to 'no backers'' in single opposite wards in the same light?
